When Great Compliments Can Be A Dangerous Thing For Christian Writers/Bloggers

Now, let’s see what we can have on Monday’s Inspirational drive today to keep us all revved up for the week ahead…
I think it’s been so long we had a discussion among us Christian writers/bloggers, so let’s have that today shall we?

We had six tips for Christian writers/bloggers last year on the blog and you can read the posts here

But for today, I want to talk about something that struck me as I read a comment on this blog 2days ago.
I wrote this post that started the #ChastityForMen project and shared my own victory over masturbation and premarital sex.
The response was awesome. The comments and all warmed my heart to no end.
I also got a recent comment on my about Frances page that made me smile.
When I get all the lovely comments on the blog though, it always send me back to God in prayers.
I smile and then I say that it could only be you God, who took this little daughter in your arms and spurned words in her that can bless lives for you.
Emphasis on ONLY HIM – GOD COULD HAVE DONE THIS.
Now, I saw that comment on my about page some days back and it struck me as to how easy it would be for a Christian writer/blogger to get caught up in the compliments and miss the One that truly matters – God.
You see, we learned in our last post to Christian writers/bloggers that writing for God is actually a ministry and we are no less susceptible to pride as a pastor in the pulpit.
You would have to be very careful when you get to a certain stage in this journey of using your words to give God glory, otherwise the great compliments will become a problem.
How?
The compliments will become a problem when you aren’t anchored on God.

The same rules that govern other ministers govern us.
God detests pride.
It gives him no pleasure to see a son or daughter of His being proud in a place He has placed her to function for Him and that includes the blogging world.

 
See, the rules that govern us are different from the rules that govern other bloggers.
Other bloggers can run ahead and pat themselves on the back on what a great job they have done on their blogs but for us, everything on the blog – every subscriber, site traffic, word from our lips(hands) is all to give God glory.
It’s the reason why God uses this journey to build great character traits in us.
You cannot write/blog for God and your own life won’t be changed.
God changes your own life even as He changes others with the words in you.
Others pat themselves in the back for 1million page views, we give God the glory for every person that says “that article on your blog blessed my life”.
God cannot give us those 1million views except we have the spiritual capacity to handle it.
In a way, spiritual growth is also tied to blogging growth(its a ministry, so what do we expect?)
It’s the same way compliments can make you fall away except you are spiritually developed in the Lord.
I was talking to someone and she compared me to Nigeria’s own Heather Lindsey when she read one of our Frances’s Love letters on the blog.
I was like me ke?

I was reading Heather’s blog on saturday and when I got to the comment section and saw all the kind words, I couldn’t help but pray to God…
“Lord, do not open any doors to me until I am spiritually developed enough to handle them”
Heather has thousands on her facebook page, thousands on instagram and twitter page, each of those persons bless God for her life and I imagine she is bombarded by emails day in and out.
Oh, I absolutely do not want to get to that kind of stage till I am well grounded in God – very well and goodly grounded in God.
Why?
Because the easy lure of thinking of ourselves beyond what we truly are can come in to play when doors open like that to a spiritually unsound Christian blogger/writer.
For those who aren’t grounded in God, it will be easy to forget that the entirety of who we are is the definition of God.

 
See, fellow Christian writers/bloggers, the same way a pastor goes on his knees before God is the same way we should go on our knees before God, holding onto Him as our only anchor and self-sufficiency.
Recognizing the fact that the blog – every person who gets blessed with God’s words in us is all of His work and none of us.
That should keep us as humble as we should be.
No one should get things twisted.
Let’s not make the mistake of letting the compliments make us lose focus on what’s truly important, which is giving God all the glory.
Yes, let our hearts get warmed by the compliments but send the glory right back to who it should belong to – God.

So dear fellow writers/bloggers writing for God…
Let’s not let the good compliments turn into a dangerous thing for us.
Keep yourself grounded in God and know that the glory isn’t for us, the glory is all to God.
Our lives, the blog, the blog readers, the plenty traffic, the great and numerous subscriber list… they are all to give God glory.
The blog will be nothing without God.
As we go out into this week and beyond in our writing journey for God, don’t let the compliments get things twisted.
The entirety of the blog and who you are is the definition of God.
Let it stay that way.

God bless us all as we use our talents for Him.
May we be continually changed and transformed to the image of Jesus in this ministry of writing even as God’s word in us changes others.
