#Online Bible Study

What Is TRUTH?

Hi hi people! Welcome to another day of our online Bible study-Rhema for today!

I hope you are already whipping out your Bibles/Bible in your phones, tabs, laptop, etc… You are not yet? Come on, you know you should come on this blog every wednesday with your Bible na? But you are forgiven, just whip them words of life out now…

So, in my last post I talked about the fact that we have to listen to the truth about ourselves and not lies but the deal was, I didn’t really elaborate on what “truth” was in that post.
I was studying the Bible in August when I read Ephesians 6:14 which talks about God’s armor, one of which is the “belt of truth”.
So I was wondering about what is truth. I studied, wrote and studied again. And I found out that I wasn’t the only one wondering about “truth”, Pilate had wondered about it too in John 18:38 – “What is truth? Pilate asked”

So as usual, when something bugs me, I dig into the word… I started tracing where Jesus talked about truth in the Bible and ended up reading the 14, 15, 16 and 17th chapter of John in the Bible… (Get why you have to whip out your Bibles yet?)
So Jesus told Phillip, “I am the way, the TRUTH and the life”… (John 14:6)

Simples right? Question answered? But no, there’s more…

John 14:17, John 15:26, John 16:13… all referred to the Holy Spirit who Jesus said He would send to us, as the Spirit of truth.
And then again, John 17:17 says “Make them holy by your truth: teach them your word which is truth”…
So it’s not simple anymore eh? Jesus says He is truth, then says God’s word is truth, then says again that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth… Confusion much?
No, there’s no confusion when you read the Bible while asking the Holy Spirit to explain the words that were written by His inspiration to you.

Ive-realized-that-you

So I got thinking, asking and reading and studying.
Jesus = Truth.
The Holy Spirit = Truth.
The word of God = Truth.
So where’s God the father in this all?
Jesus words to the rescue.
John 14:11, Jesus was asking Peter if He didn’t believe that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him. Then He said… “Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me”.
Now, this is a bit difficult to wrap heads around but let’s try. we have one God who operates in trinity, God the Father, son and the Holy Ghost. Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is God, God the Father is God, so it makes sense that Jesus says He is in God and God is in Him (a mystery I hope to understand more later on)

Jesus says that I am the way, TRUTH and life. And He says the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth and then He says I am in the father and the father is in me. So as He is truth, God the Father is also truth and then the word of God is also truth… is anyone realizing something here already? What is truth pointing to? To God, to His word, in God, in His word…
So that settles it eh? Jesus, God the Father, the Holy Spirit, the word of God = Truth.

Just-believe-that-I-am

Now, Jesus says that I am the way, the truth and the life. And then he says that the Holy Spirit will testify about me when He comes. (John 15:26)
As I studied, I found out that Jesus said to Pilate “You say I am a King, actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the TRUTH. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true” – John 18:37
So what was Jesus testifying to when He was on earth? He was testifying of Himself sent by God(truth) and then also testifying to the word of God(truth)
Now, Jesus has left the earth and He says the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth too.
So what does the Holy Spirit tell you when He comes? For me? He reminds me of the words in the Bible, even when He tells me specific instructions, it all tallies with the word of God. For example, He tells me I am light, and the only thing that rings in my head is Matthew 5:14, I can’t rest until I’ve checked it. He tells me this is who your husband will be, and then He says, remember how the shoes (feet) of a person brings peace? That’s how you will know Him, does He bring peace of me or troubles of the world? And then He leads me to Ephesians 6…
That’s how the Spirit of truth leads me, it all tallies with the word of God, everything He reveals, (at least to me) tallies with God’s word, not with my self defeating thoughts but with His soul lifting words and I realized why this is so as I read…

Sanctify them by your word which is truth” (John 17:17)
Sanctify us by what? “by your word which is truth”…
The Amplified version of the Bible defines sanctify as “Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.”

Is anyone seeing the reason why we need the word of God to be able to fulfill the purpose that God has for us yet? It’s the word that consecrate us unto the work that God has predestined us for (Romans 8:29, Ephesians 1:11)(Pls read, study the passage and get the correlation between “truth” and God’s purpose for us, it would be too long for me to go into)
But for us to even fulfill our purpose in God, we need the Holy Spirit who will remind us of all truth and lead us into the truth.

I don’t know about you but my mind lies to me in more ways than one. Lies about what I can /cant do. But the holy spirit will lead us out of self defeating thoughts into the truth in the word of God.
Even in our faith, we need the TRUTH. Notice how circumstances and situations (all lies) tend to be on the forefront? The Holy Spirit will help us see the truth which is the word of God concerning our situation.
So the truth isn’t what we see or circumstances around us, it’s the vision in faith that I see that is the truth. And we can’t see this in the word except the Holy Spirit helps us. So I see the truth in faith, hold on to it and it manifests physically if I just believe.
My sister also asked me this morning in family devotion how I will know that it’s the holy spirit speaking to me?
Well, for one, He will testify about Jesus (truth)
He will also testify and point me to the word of God (truth).
He will not speak on His own accord, He will only say what the Father tells Him to say and guide us with that knowledge of truth.
The Holy Spirit does not lie, He is the Spirit of truth himself. Everything we hear from Him is true, doubt none of it.

It was a bit difficult to get this Rhema on paper, my thoughts kept jumping from one passage of the bible to another.
But I hope we can see that circumstances, terrible situations no matter how awful are not the truth?
Jesus is truth, the word of God is truth, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth.
So when silly stuffs try to mess with you, hold onto the truth(the word and God) tightly, believe not the doctor’s report or fear, but believe the TRUTH.

Prayer-Lord, make us Holy by your truth;teach us your word which is truth and help us, that in all situations, trials and doubts, we will hold on tightly to the truth in Jesus name, amen.

As I wrote this, I also realized that I’ve not dealt with Ephesians 6 on putting on the belt of truth.
I will write on that maybe on the next Rhema for today. It can’t go in for today, it would make this all too long.
As always, this is just snacks, please get into the word and get an in depth knowledge of “truth”.
I would also love to hear from you too, what did you get as you studied? It’s a Bible study, leave a comment below, let’s discuss… and you can please hit any of the buttons below and share this, get others involved in our online Bible study here…We all need the word you know? Thanks dearies.

Love,
Frances.

I read this last night but I wasn’t able to comment. I wanted to tell you I learned from this post, and I like the way you did a breakdown of what TRUTH really is. Outside God’s word, outside Jesus, Outside the Trinity, all are lies. No wonder Jesus said He’s the Way, the truth and the life. It’s amazing because I intended posting a video last Sunday–Casting Crown’s Voice of Truth but was too tired or occupied to. Will do that this week by God’s grace.

Thank you Itunu…that’s a “truth” i’ve found out too. Outside God, outside the Word of God,most of the stuffs that find their way in are just lies.
And I absolutely love that casting crowns song.cant count the number of times i’ve had it on repeat just to let the truth sink in…

    I appreciate your stopping by.

For some strange reason, i’m jes reading this. I’ve been soo blessed by this. Indeed God’s word is truth. You can hardly separate God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit sef. Jesus is the Word of God (Jhn 1:1, 14, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. God and His word are 1. #whatarewenowtalkingabout. If God’s word is truth and the HS is the Spirit of truth, then God is truth now. My pastor mentioned how she checked d dictionary for the definition of truth and d 3rd definition was simply ‘God’. God is the definition of truth itself.
Also, Rom 3:4 says let God be true and every man be a liar. I like to remix that as, let God be true and situations, circumstances, doctor’s report, feelings, etc. be a liar.
Lemme stop here b4 I do a blogpost here. I was typing as I was meditating. Helps me to make it sink. I was really blessed by this dear. God bless you
