Weddings: A Tool For Evangelism

Dear brothers and sisters,
Once upon a long time ago I used to be a wedding crasher. My ears used to tingle at the sound of WE to the DDING!!
And as soon as I heard that one of my secondary school classmate was getting married, I stormed the day, whether I was invited or not.

The last few years has seen my interest in weddings all but die a natural death.
Suddenly, I would much rather sleep in than tie asoebi to attend someone’s wedding. The last wedding I attended was a year ago till last two weeks when I found myself attending two weddings in two weeks.

One of our sisters from the women at the well got married (the photo credit in this post is all hers) and a friend from my secondary school got married. Since I was in Delta for my NGO work at the time I deemed it fit to attend. They were beautiful weddings.

But as I sat at those weddings I was hit by a whole new desire…

“On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.”
John 2:1‭-‬2 ESV

You see, I have always known that God’s purpose trumps mine for my marriage but I have never been hit by a desire to have Jesus attend my wedding.
To have Jesus be glorified right from the day I and my husband are joined as man and wife.

I was telling my sister at the first wedding that my wedding will be a tool for evangelism.
I told her to make sure she invites all her unsaved friends. I want to go on honeymoon and come back to see mails of people who gave their lives to Christ and gave over their love lives to God because of what they say radiating from I and my husband on our wedding day.
I want ladies and men to go away with hope and trust in God for their marital stories

I am sorry but there will be no contemporary songs on my wedding day. We will search far and wide for songs that capture each moment but they will be Gospel songs based on God.
There will be a marked difference between weddings of the world and wedding of children who simply want to please Jesus that day.
I want Jesus to be given a front seat, lifted up and glorified on my wedding day.
While praying for the day, we will pray not only for the weather or for finances and for all to go well… we will pray also for every soul coming to our wedding, standing in the gap for God to release souls into His Kingdom on that day.

Its going to be all about Jesus on that day and no matter what happens Jesus glorified and Jesus as our first guest is what will be uppermost on I and my husband’s heart. Amen.

When  I wrote about how my wedding day will be two years ago I didn’t have the understanding I currently have right now. Again God is taking the gear higher into a wedding that will please Him.

Have you ever thought of glorifying Jesus on your wedding day? Is your current plan for your wedding day one that Jesus can attend?

Would Jesus honor your invite to come to your wedding?

Who is the one you want to please on that day?

Could there be a higher purpose for your D-day?

Could there be a benefit and increase for the kingdom of God even on the day you get married?

Can you and your spouse start bearing fruit for Jesus from your wedding day – fruit that will last according to John 15?

Think about it.

The world today does their stuff to please themselves – selfishness at its peak.

Can we raise our eyes and look up to God and do all we do for His glory and not ours and yes, including our weddings?

I want to do this and by God’s grace I will. Or rather me and my future hubby will.

P.S: My books “Prayers for your future husband and Prayers for your future wife” would even be given out as souvenirs to single guys and ladies that day.

Amen.

Thank you Deborah for your review!
Exactly what we are praying for.. women awakening and stirred up to pray for the one whose name they may not know.. yet.
#Repost from @queen_deborahh with @regram.app … “Prayers for your future HUSBAND” BY @frances_okoro
I concluded my 21 days prayer challenge for my future husband yesterday, and oh what joy that filled my heart. Not because I had finished the challenge but because of so much love that was poured into my heart to pray for a man I do not yet know. It just had to be God.
Some days days before I received this book I was at a gathering where I could sense a lot of strive between couples. And it hurt me a lot and I remember sitting there saying in my mind “my husband won’t be like this” “my home won’t be like this”.
And a question dropped in my heart in that moment “what seeds are you sowing in your home right now”.
And then I knew it was time to not just PRAY FOR A PARTNER but PRAY FOR THEM wherever they maybe because God knows who they are and you can start being a helpmeet in the place of prayer right now. And not selfish prayers but prayers that come from a selfless love that God is planting in your heart.
If you haven’t started praying for them, I encourage you to start now. This book was a great start for me. And I’m sure it will be for a group of other daughters of God out here.
P. S I am definitely going to continue stirring the waters.
Oooo and I also love the provision it has for writing love letters to your future husband

Stay in Christ dears.

Till our next love letter,

Love,

Frances

Thanks for this post Frances! I completely agree with you. Having such a large gathering of people is an opportunity to evangelize, not just eat jollof rice and go home.

“Is your current plan for your wedding day one that Jesus can attend?” Deep!
