Understanding The wilderness Seasons Of walking In Purpose

For Those Who Aren’t ‘Outwardly Manifesting Purpose’….Yet

 

Have you discovered your purpose yet?

Are you currently walking in it?

Some persons would answer yes to both questions.

Some other persons would answer yes to the first question and no to the latter.
If that person is you then this post is for you.

You know, today’s world is rife with applause being given to everyone who is “doing stuff” and making waves.
You see words like “I celebrate you for walking in your purpose” and if you don’t know this truth I am about to share, then there is a tendency for you to feel down and count yourself as nothing because you aren’t all “out there….yet”.

Now here is the truth:
There are different times and seasons of walking in purpose.

 

There are seasons of preparation.
There are seasons of the moulding and building of God’s vessel – You.
There are wilderness seasons.
And there are “the wealthy place” seasons.
There are also different stages of the wealthy place seasons – where doors unto other different places start opening up.

I would love to use two examples to explain this.

 

1: Kenneth E. Hagin
Kenneth Hagin went to be with the Lord in 2003 but still keeps affecting millions of lives even as he has gone to be with the Lord.
If you read his books and follow his story, you will find out that he started as pastor of a church, and then went into field ministry for a while and then went back to pastoring and finally went into field ministry with the office of a prophet given to him.

Now after about 12 years of ministering as a pastor, Jesus told him he hasn’t even entered into the first stage of his assignment.

What!

After 12 years!

Now in the beginning part of those 12 years no one knew him. He wasn’t a mover and shaker of the world, he was just Kenneth, an unknown young man pastoring a church.
In today’s world, most would classify him as not walking in purpose in those years because he wasn’t known.

But see how those background formed all God made him before he left the earth…

 

2: David:
Our second example is David.
Anointed king and then left to roam in the wilderness for more than 10 years.
He was called a rouge by Nabal.
He was chased like a dog by Saul.
The only people who stuck with him were men who were in debt or distressed or discouraged (1 Samuel 22).
Those years he spent in the wildernesses were trying years. Read his Psalms to know how he felt… never having a home, leaving in caves and waiting for God’s word to come to pass.

Again if he lived in today’s world, men will cast him off as one not walking in God’s purpose for his life in those years.

Do you see what I am trying to point out?

Today’s world celebrates the “outward manifestation of purpose”.
No one sees the wilderness years as anything.
In fact they cast it aside along with anyone who is in that season.
And so people who God has hidden in caves for the season feel discouraged and bereft and keep asking the Lord “where are you?”

But those years of silence are even better than the years of “blowing”.

Anyone who does not go through their wilderness season will come out half baked and ill prepared for the times when the works start to show forth.

The quiet years when it seems like you aren’t walking in God’s purpose for your life, you actually are!

It’s all in the plan.

Preparation seasons are part of your walking in purpose.
Please don’t despise them.
Don’t long for the outward manifestation of purpose without an inward training and preparation being done in you.

God has set these times EXACTLY as they should be.

Do not let the world pressure you into thinking that you are just drifting through life and not walking in God’s purpose for your life.

 

You may even be working at a job now and so you think that you are wasting your time just sitting at that desk doing nothing while someone else is organizing the conferences and crusades. .

Who says that God wants you to organize crusades for Him?

Maybe there is a character trait you have to learn in this season of working in an office.

Maybe you are actually called to be in the career/business sphere and these young years is God preparing you for when He will release young lives into your hands in the future.

Do not despise whatever season of purpose God has you in.

And this is why this is so important:
IT IS GOD WE PURSUE, NOT PURPOSE.

 

God is the only constant in this journey.
Our relationship with Him and our conforming to His character and person the main aim.
So as long as we are with Him, building relationship as against doing just works for Him, then wherever and whatever He sends us to do at that particular season is fine.

God first; all other things will follow.

“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord . Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.”
Deuteronomy 8:2‭-‬5 NIV
