I remember the day I had the idea for the singles hangout…
I had just finished having my quiet time and praying that “God should fill me with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (my all time favourite prayer).
And the idea to hold something like this where we single ladies just sit and share was laid in my heart.
I didn’t do anything about it till I was speaking to my friend Queenie later on and what we were talking about was basically on what God wanted me to share with the sisters.
I almost leapt out of my chair and there was this urgency to send this email to my subscriber list and invite sisters who would be interested to attend.
As I went to bed that night, God laid John 4 on my heart to share during the hangout.
And so began the teachings on Jesus being the ultimate well who can fill us up.
Throughout the week I prayed about the hangout and continued to sit in for God to speak more rhema from John 4 into my heart.
I scouted for the venue for the hangout and settled on Nike Art Gallery which was perfect!
I didn’t have cash at hand so I was looking for “free” but amazing and Nike Art Gallery was amazing indeed.
On the morning of the hangout I had the amazing sister Onyinkan driving down to where I was to bring some sandwiches for the hangout and when I told her I really didn’t know what to say to the ladies that will be coming, she just spoke peace and reassurance into my heart.
I got a call that morning from a special lady from the blog, Sochi, who was all prayers and encouragement.
And of course some mails from some blog readers who couldn’t attend the hangout (one was out of the country) but they wanted us to share a video on what will be shared during the hangout.
Somehow, we didn’t get to record a video on what we spoke about from John 4… everyone was involved in the moment and it just didn’t cross our minds even though we thought about it at the beginning of the meet.
I tried to reproduce a video on some words from the meet yesterday but I didn’t like how the video turned out so I can’t put it up… I apologize.
But you can watch another video from the hangout below… its a little bit of some introduction of some ladies who came to the event early… a video full of laughs and pure joy… which is exactly what Jesus promises us in John 4 if we’d only but drink from Him – the well.
Watch the video here…
We were 9 ladies in total at the hangout, me, Distinguished, Amaka, Adanna, Tope, Ify, Ruth, Queenie and Anita.
And it was just amazing.
You know that feeling you get from walking in purpose?
Again, I felt it deeply.
We first of all introduced ourselves, what we do, challenges, etc…
Then we toured the gallery…
Something awesome happened during the tour… we were done and we’re about stepping out to have our talk outside when Madam Nike the owner of the gallery asked us to deck in beads and snap pictures with her.
And then after the pictures, they gave us drinks on the house from the cafe… like talk about favour!
Prior to the meet, I was wondering about how I was going to fund refreshment, how the venue will be, etc, but God just again made me know that those things are peripherals.
When He says “do this”, He means “I will go before you and smoothen out everything”.
We sat down to share from John 4 and I just thank God because everyone of us went back home with a word for our soul.
All I will say right now is, if you are a single lady and aren’t satisfied with your life, know that God promises you Himself – the only one who can fill you up.
You don’t need to try to fill up the void with sex, boyfriends, internet…etc…only God can fill you up.
He promises you abundant life… abundant life you can start living forth from right now even while single.
He promises you joy… He promises you fullness of life in Him.
It saddens Him to see you pining after men/a husband when you aren’t full of Him yet and it’s only in being full of Him that you’d find yourself and be satisfied completely.
Words would fail me to share all we shared at the hangout. I wish you had attended… but there’s no worries.
Almost everyone has been asking me “when are we having the next one?
We can make it an annual/bi-annual thing right?”
I admit that I didn’t and maybe I still don’t see what God’s ultimate plan for this singles hangout is… but somehow it’s seeping into my heart that we only just had the foundation.
You see, when I started the #12TripChallenge, my reasons for starting it and inspiring others to do same was the same reason God gave me to get some singles together for the hangout.
Which is to share the truth that we can be satisfied and enjoy our lives in Jesus, right now, in this season, with contentment and with joy… husband or no husband.
It won’t be strange that God would use that simple desire to start out something bigger… I believe that 2016 will see God doing awesome things with this gathering.
For now, a group arose from that meeting.
God gave me the name as “The Women At The Well”.
The well basically is Jesus.
A well refreshes, nourishes and quenches thirst.
The women at the well basically means ladies who are filled in and with Jesus through and through.
Ladies who look to Jesus for refreshment and all they need and everything else flows form there.
We’ve already started discussions that I pray would leave everyone of us enriched each week and prayers every Saturday.
I’d love to get some other ladies interested to join up but don’t want to do so till I get the full plan for the group… and would just love to start up in 2016.
I’m praying and planning towards another singles hangout which will be in January 2016 by God’s grace.
The group can inculcate more members then.
All in all, it has been an amazing year I won’t lie.
And everything God has been laying in my heart are things opening up pathways to His purpose for me… money cannot and will never give me the fulfillment I got from holding a meeting such as I did with the sisters.
And as I went home, thanksgiving upon thanksgiving kept flowing from my heart.
I beg you all too, don’t get sucked into the complains and murmuring air in this season.
God has been good to us in 2015. Show Him gratitude!
I appreciate everyone who made the hangout a success.
My friend, Queenie, sister Onyinkan the encourager, the ladies who came, Madam Nike and everyone in Nike art Gallery and God our Father, Lord and king.
More than ever before I am seeing that there’s power in a group of godly ladies… so much power in fellowship with like minds.. ladies just sold out to God and walking in His ways.
I hope you are sold out too.
And I hope to meet and relate with many more of you in other “The Women at The well” hangouts to come.
Have an awesome weekend ahead.
P.S:
For everyone who didn’t get to attend any of the stuffs God led me to organize prior to this time, we still have about 3 events to go on Imperfectly Perfect lives before the year runs out.
My book reading/discussion on purpose hold next week Saturday 19th December. (see flyer below for details).
And we would be visiting a girl’s correctional centre on December 22nd in Lagos. Click here to read this post for full details.
If you can join us and want to end this year on top of your game, walking in purpose and blessing lives while at it, then please do 🙂
