Last weekend, we had an online class for teenagers/youths as part of my NGO work. The topic was “developing talents and potentials”.
I was reading through the words that were shared by the speaker and the one thing I was hit by is on how even with our potentials and talents, it would take only God to get us to where He has told us we will be.
This morning I woke up with a need to dig into who the Spirit is to us again.
âIf you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you foreverâ the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.â
-John 14:15-21
“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
âI have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you”
-John 16:7-15
This how AMPLIFIED version explains who the Holy Spirit is:
the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby).
Don’t we need all the above roles of the Spirit to be made manifest in our lives?
As we walk in that which God has called us to do, we are limited as human beings. How can flesh fulfill a heavenly vision? We need God to walk in what He has ordained for our lives. And here is where we can draw from the Spirit.
As comforter: He comforts us even in our pain, trials and tears. Haven’t you cried before when your vision seemed too great for you to handle? The Holy Spirit was just waiting for you to turn to Him.
As counselor: we need wisdom as we go forth. We need wisdom to know what to do, what to say at each point in time even as God sends us to the world to shine as light for Him.
As Advocate: He is our defender. When the enemy rises against us maybe even through people, we can hold our peace knowing that we have one who defends us and will speak on our behalf.
As Intercessor: He prays for us when we don’t even know what to pray for.
As Strengthener: When you are weak, you have Him to energize you. To infuse strength into you.
As Standby: He is just waiting for you to call on Him when you need help, to cry out “help me” and He will be there.
How awesome is it that we have a divine helper who will never leave us?
People aren’t our first port of call as we walk in God’s plan for our lives; the Holy Spirit is!
I told myself God help me to dig into the power and help available to me from the Spirit. Help me to run to Him instead of running to men. Help me to ask Him for grace, help, wisdom, instead of trusting in men. Help me Holy Spirit, help me!
As you go out this week into your God-given tasks, remember to cry out for the help of the Holy Spirit. Before you reach out to men or even google in search for the next strategy on what to do, reach out to the Spirit of wisdom.
I pray for a super blessed week for us all.
Till next time on purposeful living her here on the blog,
Love,
Frances.
