Hello blog fam! Hope body, spirit and soul still dey kampe? 🙂
Last week on Rhema for today, we did “what is truth”. You may just have to read that first for you to be able to get a scoop on today’s Bible study. Click here. Come on, go and read it first. It will open in a new tab and this will still be here when you are done.
Alright.
So, I started studying on today’s word a while back when a friend said one minute she was joyful about bar exams and the next minute she was all doubtful with thoughts of I didn’t write well and all that. She passed by the way, so congratulations Adanna 🙂
And I started digging in… Why do we float sideways when we are holding on to God’s promises in faith?
Why do we believe one minute and sink the next minute like Peter?
Ephesians 6:14 to the rescue “Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth…”
So we established last week that truth is Jesus and the word of God and that the Holy Spirit leads into all truth (please please go and read that if you haven’t yet click here)
Well, isn’t it interesting that the Bible says we should stand our ground therefore… One wouldn’t need to be admonished to stand their ground if something on that same ground wasn’t threatening to shake them.
And then the word says put on the Belt of truth.
Other versions say stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist but I love this version…
So when He says fasten your belt with truth what is He saying? Fasten your belt with me, with my word, not with your own mind sets, not with what you think, with me, with my word.
Now here’s how it works…you don’t need a belt if something’s already in place, you need a belt to hold your trousers/skirts or something in place..
I certainly won’t need to belt up my clothes if they were not threatening to fall off. If I do not belt my trousers up, then it can easily just slide to the ground because it’s not held up securely.
So if we are not standing with the belt of truth, we are sitting/lieing down in a world of lies.
We float upwards and downwards in faith because though we know what the word(truth) says, we are not fastened securely in place.
The truth is not supposed to be a one off thingy that you read and forget. You do that and you are sure to create room for lies to come in.
When you read the word(truth), you let it come alive in you, you refuse to give thoughts to anything else other than the truth in your life. You strap yourself in place and hold yourself securely in Jesus (truth), even if the belt threatens to fall off, you pull it on tightly again and again. Just like you do not let the physical belt fall off, you do not also for a minute let the belt of truth fall off.
A wordless Christian is a shaky Christian, tossed and turned around every which way by the wind.
Empty and susceptible to all kind of lies that the devil and circumstances bring their way.
And the Bible says hold on tightly to the word we’ve heard… The word has power to redeem our souls.
How?
By renewing our mind.
How can this be done?
With the word of God(the truth). I can’t count the number of times that the word of God helped me out of silly thoughts in my mind.
I remember how during bar exams I was always countering with the word, fear of I wrote terribly? The word comes in. Fear of worry? He says I will keep in perfect peace those whose heart is stayed on me..
So what was the word doing? the truth was fastening me and my beliefs in place! Aha!
My friends say “Frances you always have a word for every stuff I talk to you about”… For me, it’s not just a word, it’s the truth, the truth in the Bible. There’s a reason why we have to hold onto it, otherwise we will be tossed and turned every which way, our trousers will just be falling down from our waists and we will be pulling it up and down till we fasten up with the belt of truth! Then we stay in place, stay in place, stay in the truth, stay in faith!
You know how Peter began to sink because His eyes wasn’t on Jesus? Now not just that his eyes wasn’t on Jesus, he forgot that Jesus had told Him to come. He forgot the truth in Jesus’s words. “Come”..and then He began to sink.
Circumstances will always fight to take the place of truth and God’s words spoken to us in our lives… for Peter it was the storm.what is it for you? You will keep sinking, unless you fasten the truth in place, belt it up and be good to go.
Now, I go as far as to google Bible passages relating to anything at the time that I go through. I was speaking to someone at law school and he was like, “you google the Bible? That’s too far oh”.
I said if I can google people’s biographies, why not the Bible?
Why am I saying this? If you have to search for the truth online sef, do it. You are ill? Search for the truth concerning your illness and no, the truth isn’t your doctor’s report.
You are broke, dry, without a job? Search for the truth concerning you, google it if need be, turn and turn the pages of the Bible if need be, just buckle up with the truth.
Fasten your seat belt in place with the word of God-with the truth!
But remember, before you can strap yourself in with truth, you have to have the word of God (truth) in you to be able to conquer lies. So it is imperative that the word of God is in you for you to do this and each and every time, we are again led to the reason why we started this online Bible Study. We can’t do away with this. We have to get in the word of God.
Prayer – Lord, we are sorry for neglecting your word, in any way that we have failed to strap ourselves in, we are sorry. Please grant us grace to be fastened to our belts of truth. Help us not to drift afar off from you, in Jesus Name We have prayed, amen.
As always, I will love to hear from you, it’s an online Bible study, so I’m sure you whipped out your Bibles since na? Oya please let me hear your own rhema in the comment section.
Love,
Frances.

October 22, 2014 at 3:51 pmNot sure how come I have not been here before. Or have I?
Anyway, I am glad I came by today.
Frances, you are so on point.
Not to have Godâs Word brimming over in us is almost like a Death Wish.
Many times, we fall for the lies of the enemy BECAUSE we donât know the Truth.
How can you stand on what you do not know?
I have been taught to understand that speaking in tongues is âpowerlessâ if we are not regularly spending time in the Word of God.
You are just âblowing out hot airâ *smiling. God will help help us all.
So anyone who, like you, is taking time to dig deeper into the Word has my voteï
I shall try to make it a point to come back often.

October 22, 2014 at 4:58 pmWow! Thank you Salt!
I just got another reason for me to tryyy my best not to slack in the word…
The powerful speaking in tongues that only God understands is just hot air without the word? We need to dig in, we really need to dig in more and more into the truth.
Thank you and I do hope you stay and visit often too. welcome! 🙂

October 22, 2014 at 9:55 pmThis is absolutely true…
The word of God is how we stay grounded and it needs to dwell in us richly…then we need the Holy Spirit to activate the word in us and make it life, living and breathing…because the letters kills but the spirit gives life.
Christians are not victorious and are always prone to error cos they don’t have enough of the word of God in them; they have substituted God’s word for that of their pastor and hence are easily led astray and have no depth…
Lack of the word is also why Christians don’t appear different from those that don’t believe…the word produces in us a higher life, and makes us start manifesting the life of God here on earth. for the Christian that knows his God, heaven starts here on earth!

October 24, 2014 at 8:03 pmGreat points Topazo! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Truly, reading just the letters of the Bible without inviting the Holy Spirit to come along on the ride will be an empty journey. It’s the Spirit behind the letters that reveals things to us and not the letter itself. One cannot study the Bible with the natural mind and expect to get anything from it, it will just confuse you…
Hearing from pastors are great, sermons are lovely but nothing beats personal time with the word with God. Nothing beats it…
We glow, we flourish, we thrive when we feed on the truth as we should.
Again,thank you Topazo.
Highly Favored
October 23, 2014 at 9:08 pmGreat post and so true…we need to know the word of God for ourselves. Attending church service is a great inspiriation but we need to take it to the next level of personal bible study and meditating on the Word of God for ourselves.

October 24, 2014 at 8:15 pmThat’s it highly favoured, attending church service is great but we won’t grow as we should if we only get in the word on Sundays. It has to be an everyday lifestyle, part of us and what we can’t live without.
Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you 🙂
