Personal Memoirs

Stinginess? Poverty Mentality? Or Prudence???

10naira vs 50naira?

10naira vs 50naira?

She looked at me,expressing shock at my words.
What words you think?
Well I said that I’d rather buy 10naira pure water than 50naira bottled water in this place.(put those side eyes down jor.Lol.)
Eh eh,(clears throat) this post is going to be dropping it as it is,so don’t judge me or give me the side eye o.
Just pls,listen/read as I talk(write) my own.As you well know,I am currently in NLS Lagos and if you don’t know where that is,its in VI,the centre of ridiculously expensive things.
Take for example,my friends went shopping and were exhausted,so they decided to get water and they were told that the normal 50naira bottled water was 300naira!
Well, they just said they wanted to get the whole pack(not one can) and high-tailed it out of there.
One was told that one small popcorn was sold for 800naira when we all know “uncle best” plenty popcorn wey b 50naira.

Me,I dey jejeje buy pure water 10naira when I wan eat, instead of can sef.Which is what brought this whole matter.

The “she” above also asked me how many times I eat in a day that will make me say that 50bucks bottled water is too expensive.

You are still calling me stingy?
Well,let me present my case…

Ok,let’s do the math.

First of all,I drink water a lot,one can nor dey reach per meal.
I can drink like get 6 a day,and that’s #300.
#300 for the week is #2,100 and don’t even get me started on how much that comes to for the month!
Meanwhile,I can also jejeje buy the bag of pure water for #100,drink it and even use it to brush my teeth sef for 2 days!

So tell me which one a reasonable person on student salary should chose?

I guess it could just be the way I was raised sha,my momma used to say “#10 na money”
And if she go market loss even #100,we nor go hear another news throughout that day again.(lol)
And that’s how I am.
I calculate and calculate and think of getting more for less.
Added to the fact that I have a business head for numbers.
I know I am a lawyer But seriously,I have always thought I’d pass for an accountant.
I like accounting for even any 10naira I have spent.
Truly!
I will literally rack my head and trace every cash I spent in a day.
That’s the way I am,so I don’t get it when people say,”whats mere 300naira dat I can’t pay?”
Me I don’t think like dat o,I think-“300naira is great and big cash”!

So do you still see my decision to get #10 pure water instead of bottled water on my small student allowee as stinginess?
Does this mean that I have poverty mentality or I am simply super-prudent?(Yay,I prefer this one)

I prefer to think that I am just a really careful person with cash and that my husband will enjoy it someday the way my dad enjoys my mom’s careful management of cash.(Na good virtue to get o)
My dad even praises her for her ability to maximize and turn little cash into getting many things.
Seriously, you need to see the things she can get from the market with just 5k.

But do tell me what you think,am I being unnecessarily monkey(ishly) tight handed?
Am I being pursued by poverty mentality?
Or am just a super prudent Lawyer that also happens to know how to manage my cash like a wiz?
And I assume the wealthy ones that honestly worked for their cash don’t throw it around.
I think rich people are good accountants or they employ good accountants.
If spending anyhow and not accounting for even $1 is d ish,how come they don’t do that? Dey account 4every kobo spent(nai mean say I go rich o,*dancing*)hehe.

But seriously my people,do you think accounting for cash spent is stinginess? Does the fact that I want to save 30naira mean dat I”m stingy?
Does the fact that I don’t buy on impulse or see 300naira as small change mean that I have poverty mentality?

Biko, talk your own and help me out.

I know I just confessed what may make me seem like a stingy person o but I’ll love to know that I am not alone, are you like me too? Or are you a spendthrift?

Share ya thoughts below.
And err,if you have another commodity I can substitute and get more for less, and thus help my student allowee ministry, hit your girl up jare,it will be appreciated.

Have a splendid day people!
#Much love.

enjoy...

enjoy…

See as the guy dey flex e pure water so??carry go jor!hehehehe.
#Ok,bye!

This isn’t poverty mentality or stinginess, wen I start working, it would be bottled water ;).

My babe, abeg leave them make them talk. It isn’t poverty mentality oo.. When time comes you have enough to buy 100 bottle water a day and it won’t even be notice on ur income. Now is the time to build that time. If I buy bottle water, I hardly finish it, that water will follow me home cos I don’t drink too water. I even think that am wasting the money so I decide to be buying 10 naira water(drink and throw away shekina!) But another thing be say mk u nor use am dirty our country ooo(put that for mind). I don talk ooo.. Carry on babe, u too much!

It’s being prudent dear. I’ll take pure water over bottled water any day. Manage your student allowee now, when you can afford the bottled water without much calculations of its dent on your finance, then you know you can totally go for it. I’m a student too, team pure water all the wayy!!!
