So You Think You Are Nothing?

Can I just mention that I am currently in my favourite place in NLS Lagos and doing my most favourite thing in the world as I write this?

I am at the roof top of my hostel, earphones plugged in, Hillsong’s Lord of Lords on repeat and doing what i am getting to discover is my most favourite thing in the world – writing.

I cant explain what worshipping with songs on a still quiet night like this while staring at the skies/writing does to me… It just seems to me like I am at peace…happy….almost feel like I should be in heaven right now….

Anyways, enough about that,…

I hope you all had a great weekend?

So I was at a programme on saturday in school when a passage that was shared gave me that earth shattering inspiration for today’s post.

I’ve always thought that Jesus was a really handsome man while he was on earth, you know, all full of swags, well built and to die for..

But here’s what Isaiah 53:2 says –

“ He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
    and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
    nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by mankind,
    a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
  he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.”

 

POOW!

Big burst of bubble for me.

So, Jesus had nothing in his appearance that would have drawn us to him if we had seen him? No biceps. no 6packs, no perfect dentition like Tyler Perry, no handsome face like Idris Elba …?

I’d still like to think my Lord was a foine man when on earth but let me take the literal interpretation of Isaiah 53;2 as it is and draw out the lessons I want to share today…

The message version says –

“There was nothing attractive about him,
    nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
    a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
    We looked down on him, thought he was scum.”

There was really nothing soooo distinct about Jesus’s appearance to cause people to take a second look at him when he passed by, nothing really significant enough to make someone stop by and appreciate his outer beauty…

But our Lord had inner beauty like no other.

It wasnt really about the outer beauty, Jesus was carrying what even so-called handsome men did not have inside them.

He was passed by, thought to be a low life even… but that wowo man was meant to carry our sins, suffering and pain on himself without uttering a word.

That man whose appearance wasnt worth a second look was to save the world from sin and that he did. (halleluyah!)

God does not use what men see and applaud as good to wrought mighty things, He uses the seemingly lowly, the one who nobody gives a hoot about, the one who men look at and pass on as an “odonyo”…

 

So you think you are nothing, no one, not fine?

So they think you are scum?

No problem.

That nothing is exactly what God wants to use to wrought amazing things.

He wants to use the seeming “nobody” to show the world His power and glory.

Isaiah 53:2  says- “ He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
    and like a root out of dry ground…”

Your dry ground can be your environment, life experiences, trials right now or all what not (fill in the blanks).

But God can shoot out trees with amazing fruits from that dry ground if you let Him like Jesus did.

 

So rejoice!

Rejoice when your friends, acquaintances, roomates et al take a look at you and pass you up as a nobody.

Why?

Because like Jesus, you know what you carry inside you.

E nor dey show for face.

God will use you for mighty and great works despite what men may think.

Men are not God.

God knows what He has deposited into you that He wants you to release into the world.

It has absolutely nothing to do with how men see you, it has everything to do with how God sees you.

God will use you, the seemingly lowly for mighty and great things.

IF ONLY YOU ARE WILLING, just like Jesus was willing to be used for God.
