I think she was bent on having me eat something that day… Out of her good intentions of course.
She didn’t know that I was trying to cultivate self-control as regards food so she offered me groundnut, I said no.
She offered me meat pie, I said no.
She offered me rice, and it took all of me to say no.
Then she asked why I didn’t want to eat and I told her I was on a weight loss journey and then she said the words that have come to be so dear to my heart – “Na today you wan start?”
According to her, I have always been fat so why change now? And even if I wanted to change, why would I change now? Why didn’t I start up earlier?
I took it all with a pinch of salt but as words are won’t to do, the words stuck with me and I was forced to ruminate on them.
She said that to me but worse would have been me saying that to myself.
It seems like there’s a time for things to be done and if they are not done then, then we should let those things go…
But I say, let that belief burn to blazes.
As I jogged about a year after those words were said to me with lots of kgs left behind, I know in my spirit that ANY DAY IS A GOOD DAY TO START.
And I am grateful to her for asking me if “na today I wan start”?
My answer is yes, na today I wan start!
You know, any day is a good day to start, no one ever said that a particular day would be better suited for what we want to do.
And this lesson doesn’t just apply to weight loss, it applies to every area of our lives.
Just stick with me and follow this through…
How many times have you wanted to change your life, change your attitude, pursue your long buried dreams…
And then you take a step back and decide you will start up next week. Today’s not a good day to start yeah?
But whoever set those rules? What differentiates today from the next day? (except of course you have to set plans and modalities in place)
So I say, reach for the stars, start up that blog, start up that business, start writing, start that book, start exercising, start up your quiet time with God, start living in faith again, start dreaming again, start applying to those companies again…TODAY!
Today is just as good as any other day to start. After all, they are all new days we have been blessed with to start afresh.
The new day haven’t been tainted with the failures of the past so do not let the day be stiffled with whatever is holding you back from starting afresh again.
In fact, I’m starting up something I have failed at for a while again today…
Will you be doing the same?
Uhm, I just might be away for a while, what with NYSC camp starting up tomorrow.
But posts will be on here as usual, I will be posting a few of guest posts I did for other blogs that I haven’t published here.
The second part of our last wednesday’s Bible study will also be up this wednesday. Please read the first part here if you havent already.
Do drop your comments love, I’ll be seeing them 🙂
Happy New Month People!
Remember today is a good day to start whatever you want to start up!
Love,
Frances.
