Magaret Olatunbosun: When Too Much Inspiration Can Be a Clutter in Your Mind

Are you one of those people who buy every book, audio CD, and coaching session you can get your hands on in order to promote personal development? Chances are that this has happened to you before: you stumble upon a very inspiring message on social media and you spend the next 10 hours devouring related videos on peak performance products.

I used to do this; in fact, I still do. But I am soon learning that your passion to absorb everything can actually slow down your efforts in launching yourself into the next dimension for success.

Getting “prayed up” or reading lots of inspiring content is NOT a bad idea.

As a matter of fact, anything that contributes to the multiplication of the talents you have is something worth celebrating.

But problem arises when there is too much multiplication that the seeds you’ve sown are not tended to on a daily basis that they’ve begun to wilt and die.

We live in a culture where every message labeled “inspiration” is consumed without regard for its source or content. Our minds have been fed with so much continuously that there is no space for growth. The ideas we have generated are not put to use; so they sit around in our mind like clutter.

Just like you need to cut back on your food intake so we don’t endanger our health, the mind also needs to breathe from every stimulus we subject it to. Not everything that looks good is right for you, and not everything that seems right is good for you right now.

Of course, you should always identify opportunities for growth and development especially as you improve yourself to serve others. But it is also imperative to know that you don’t have to walk into every open door. Some activities are time wasters and will definitely fill you up with knowledge, none of which points to your divine purpose.

Instead of jumping on every self-development wagon out there, here are some tips to finding messages that align with your true purpose:

(1) Be honest about where God wants you to be…
Are you called to serve in the Children’s ministry? Has God given you a mind that comprehends numbers and large amount of data? Invest in these areas and you will experience exponential growth in the process.

(2) Just DO something with what God has given you.
You need to serve others. For God to release an increase into whatever venture you’re into, there’s got to be an Input and Output system. Just as financial banks don’t give loans without asking to know what you’ll do with it, God doesn’t pour into a closed-tunnel.

Don’t let inspiration overload kill your creativity! The destinies of others are connected to your action. If there are no teachers, there are no students. If there are no farmers, there are no food stores. When you do what God has called you to do, the gifting of others are amplified and they can fully live their dreams.

(3) Stay “prayed up”

I saved the best for last. The only place where an overdose of inspiration is actually celebrated is in His Presence! You are wonderfully and beautifully made by a loving God. If there is a change in your setting or function, shouldn’t it make sense to seek the one who made you first?

How do you declutter your mind? How do you balance your quest for knowledge and taking action? I’m keen to hear from you all!

Tnx maggielola.Gud 2 come across this piece..Was havn d inspirational overdose lately.Coudn’t get enough,it was like, where has all this messages been all my life. For me,i have 2 meet up..I absorbd soo much that i didn’t even have d time 2 effect it;which was d essense of gathering d knowledge..I had 2 stop, give myself some time to apply them n 2 check for signs of growth.By releasn d knowledge from my mind n applying them at d slightest opportunity,i was able 2 unclutter my mind n be more creative.I learnt that personal development doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process that needs time.

I also experience this most times and Maggie’s tips will come in handy.
I also just switch off my phone, cool off my brain and just #rest most times too.
