As at the time I wrote this in February, I personally felt like I had being listening to too much marriage and relationship talks and I was thirsty for career/take on the world/live in purpose talks⦠But I opened my Bible that morning and the lessons the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see just kept pouring in and it hasnât stopped.
As at on Monday when I re-read the passage in preparation for this series, new revelations kept springing up and one would think that Iâve never read the passage before sef.
I will be sharing them daily, a post a day, starting from today.
Tis for both guys and girls too, so sit tight and letâs rollâ¦.
Genesis 24
Abraham, the big oga who God favoured enough to show himself to, have such amazing covenants with and even send angels to visit him in his house, had grown old and was about to die. (btw, can you imagine relating with God on such a paddy level? But I digress)
He called his servant, blessed him and asked him to go look for a wife for Isaac. Abraham gave the servant specific instructions to get a wife for Isaac from Abrahamâs homeland.
Now, the servant was lost, confusedâ¦he even asked Abraham, what if I canât find a young woman willing to travel so far from home? What do I do? Should I then take Isaac there to live among your relatives in the land you came from?
I am sure the servant must have been thinking âwhich kain match making job Oga Abraham don send me na?â lol
Genesis 24:12
But the servant prayed â âO Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success today and show unfailing love to my master Abraham. See, I am standing here beside this spring, and the young women of this town are coming to draw waterâ¦let her be the one you have selected as Isaacâs wife. This is how I will know that you have shown unfailing love to my masterâ (oya open your Bible and read, fill those blanks I skipped)
And then fine âpretty Rebecca comes bouncing alongâ¦
Beautiful daughter of Bethel who was the son of Abrahamâs brother Nahor and his wife Milcah.
Exactly what Abraham wanted! A wife from his homeland!
Just one thing left though, the servant waited to see if she will fulfil the request he asked from God on how to know if sheâs the chosen one and voila!
She gave him water to drink and also drew water for His camels too.
The servant was overjoyed!
Now, this is my favourite love story in the Bible, Iâve always thought that one thing to learn from it is that God is a match maker, a match maker that doesnât make mistakes but aside from that, there are other valuable lessons in here, let me share the first oneâ¦
Genesis 24:16 says Rebecca was very beautiful and old enough to be married but she was still a virginâ¦.
Does that ring in your head? Not the fact that she was a virgin oh, but the fact that she was old enough to be married but wasnât.
I can imagine how much we single ladies of today worry when it seems like weâve come of age to be married.
And I can imagine Rebecca herself having a pity party about the fact that she was still singleâ¦
Truly, I can actually see her in my head being jittery, crying, saying âbut I am beautiful na, lovely, even a virgin, chaste and trying to keep in line with the ways of God. Why hasnât my prince charming arrived?â
And I bet on my shoes that Rebecca had no idea what was in store for her that day. She had no idea that she would be the answer to someoneâs prayer that day⦠that God had prepared her for her man, and even set aside the day it would be done.
So ladies, why do we worry?
Can we add one hair to our head by worrying?
Can we make the man magically appear when we cry and fret?
We are an answer to someoneâs prayer who may even be praying right now but it would only happen at the set time God has ordained for it.
Shebi when Rebeccaâs time came to be joined to her man it happened?
So what are we killing ourselves for?
We are beautiful, chaste, and serve God with all of our heartsâ¦
Then chillâ¦
God is bringing our own just like He did with Rebecca and I bet on my shoes again, on the day we meet him(if we havenât met him already) weâll have no idea that we are actually going to lock eyes with âthe oneâ that day.
We are answers to someoneâs prayer.
I will tell you congratulations someday soon and even share your testimony/your weddings pictures on my blog soon⦠in Godâs time.
PS: As I wrote this, the lessons still poured in, I already have the lessons I wrote down lined up to be published so I will just share what I got as I typed this just now…
See the point where Abraham told the servant to make sure he selected the wife from his homeland?
Like, he specifically told the servant to make sure that Isaac does not marry one of the Canaanite women.
Now, can you imagine if Isaac had married out of Godâs purpose, what would have happened to the plans God had for Abrahamâs descendants?
So also is it with us- under no circumstance are we to marry out of the body of Christ, as in out of the Christian faith.
Just as God had a plan For Abraham generation, so also He has a plan for us.
God wants us to raise Godly seeds and this would definitely not be possible when we go out of the family of Christ.
Family of Christ being Christians, not just mere churchgoers. ⦠A man/woman who truly loves God and is committed to making his/her walk with God grow and live in accordance with Godâs ways.
Remember that you are an answer to someoneâs prayer and God will make it all fit in in His time, not yours.
So hold on, Godâs got it all planned out.
Pretty, pretty please share this post via twitter and all. Hit the share button below. Thank you.
The series continuesâ¦
Love,
Frances.

April 23, 2014 at 8:42 pmThe biggest lesson from this love story for me is the fact that Abigail was CULTURED.
She obviously had a good attitude and well bringing.
She was hospitable to someone NOT eligible
A servant, smelling from both the journey and the camels and helluuuuurrrr, she had absolutely no business being nice to him.
But girlfriend was, and she landed herself a RICH GODLY FATHER IN LAW.
THAT FOR ME is huge. And you know camels drink a lotta water yet she fetched for them all…
Mehn, I can’t stop awwwwwwning at Rebekah….
