One day my sister asked me; âwhy do you always like to sing this song?â
What song?
We are saying, faithful are you Lord…
Faithful are you Lord…
Faithful are you Lord…
You are so faithful.
Every time we had prayers and I was to lead worship, I would always start with that song. Ah, she just had to ask.
Truth is, the personality of God that I hold on to the most is His faithfulness.
I have seen God as my Savior.
I have experienced Him as my provider. But one thing that keeps me always is when I remember His faithfulness. It gives me hope for the future and hope when I am discouraged.
For the past week, I knew that the aspect of God we would be considering this week is His faithfulness.
As with all studies on the blog, it kept swirling all around my head. But it wasn’t till today that I sat down to really dig into what He was trying to get across to me and to be sincere, I do not think that I scratched the surface, I am still thinking about this. But I think someone needs this today, so I am staying FAITHFUL to post same.
I woke up this morning with an urge to read Hebrews 10.
And as I read, I came across this:
âLet us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.â
-Hebrews 10:23
And so IÂ was asking God, what is the meaning of you being âfaithfulâ?
I wanted to check the dictionary but then saw this in Amplified version..
God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); (1Corinthians 1:9a)
So we can say that God is ever stable. Solid. Trustworthy. Never changes. And He guards this aspect of Himself jealously.
Last year I had to repent. You know, sometimes we think that God hasn’t fulfilled His promise to us IN OUR TIME, and so when that time passes we are tempted to call Him unfaithful.
He had said somethings to me and when I didn’t see them IN MY TIME, I just became slack in Him. With my attitude I was saying to Him, âso where is what you said? Isn’t this you failing me?â
He opened my eyes to see:
Frances, I live in a place outside of time. So who are you to tell me what to do bound by your own time and space? If I say I will do it, I will do it. It is done. And it is not bound by time. Don’t call me unfaithfulâ.
I cried. I repented.
It seemed to me that God was guarding that attribute of Himself so jealously.
Like, that is one aspect a child of God should NEVER DOUBT.
Faithful is WHO HE IS.
“If we are faithless, he remains faithfulâ for he cannot deny himself.”
-2Timothy 2:13
And almost everything that God is to us flows from His faithfulness to us.
Why is He an ever-present help in time of need?
Why can we roll all around and then when we have hit a brick wall, we cry out to Him and He still shows up?
Why do we believe that we have hope for tomorrow?
ALL BECAUSE HE IS FAITHFUL.
If we take faithfulness away from God, then a huge part of our belief as Christians is chopped off.
Now, apart from faithfulness being who He is, there are certain things that His being faithful translates into in our lives.
1: Preservation In This Present World:
âHe will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.â
-1 Corinthians 1:8&9
Sometimes we wonder whether we will make it to heaven. Whether we can withstand the present darkness and sin in the world.
But see what He is telling us here:
a: You didn’t call yourself to me; I did. And if I did I am able to keep you strong till the end, till the last day, if you will rely on me.
For those who are struggling with one thing or the other, that’s His promise to you.
I remember when I just gained my total freedom from sexual addictions, when people would comment and say that they hope my testimony is permanent and I don’t relapse, I would get scared with the âwhat ifsâ.
But see God’s promise to me (and us). I will keep you strong till the end, blameless and pure.
Why?
Not because of our strength, but because of His faithfulness.
2: On His Promises and Hope:
God’s faithfulness is the reason why we can hold onto every promise He has given to us and not waver even when they don’t come at OUR TIME.
Why?
Because He who has promised is too faithful to fail.
Even if He wants to fail, He cannot. His very essence does not allow Him to be unfaithful.
This should give someone hope.
Throw aside your time limits and attempt to box God into a corner with your timelines, get into the timeless zone of faith and because of HIS FAITHFULNESS, simply believe that what He has said He will do.
When we understand AND REALLY BELIEVE this, satan cannot toy with our faith.
It becomes pretty simple really.
3: His faithfulness gives us hope for the future:
Sometimes, we may be asking God to do something for us, and we are all panicky and fretful. And His only answer to us is that WE REMEMBER.
REMEMBER THE PAST.
REMEMBER WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US BEFORE.
He may not give us what we need immediately, but He just says…
Bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not His benefits…(Psalm 103)
And that becomes His word to us for that season.
What is He saying?
He is saying âbecause I have done this in the past, you should know that I will do this right now that you are asking me for.â
And then He says ârestâ.
This point is the reason why I did posts like Recounting testimonies of God’s provision.
Right now I have some needs and for a week I was constantly anxious. Till I really sat down and thought about it.
Where I have come from…
How I have been in EXACTLY this kind of situation before and God came through for me.
And that set my heart at rest.
The needs may have not been met but the remembrance of how faithful God is as evidenced from the past just simply set me free to trust Him even in my present and also in the future.
Casting our minds to this attribute of God â His faithfulness will do a lot to keep us anchored on our God as really, our ever-present help in times of need.
It will keep our hearts free from anxiety and in every moment, help us to be able to look up and again say âFather I trust you. Not because of anything else, but simply because who you are is faithfulâ.
Prayer:
Father, I am sorry for the times when I have doubted you and raged at you because of the physical limitations that I see.
Please Lord, let the revelation of how faithful you are dawn on me. Let my heart be anchored on this truth and for all of my ,life, in every season, may your faithfulness be what I see.
In Jesus name I have prayed, amen.
I hope that we have been studying Jesus and also just being sensitive to note the aspect of Himself that He is revealing to us per time.
Knowing God’s power and miracles is great, but knowing His person is what makes us press deeper in love in Him.
Remember our anchor verse…
“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly],â¦â
-Philippians 3:10, AMP
As we go along per week, constantly pray:
Lord reveal yourself to me.
Reveal who you are to me. I want to know you…
God help us to press into a deeper relationship with Him in Jesus name, amen.
“…but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
-Daniel 11:32b
Till our next Online Bible Study,
Much Love,
Frances
