Intimacy With Jesus || Enlisting The Help Of The Spirit of Prayer And Intercession

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

-John 16:13 KJV
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
-Romans 8:26‭-‬27 KJV

I have a confession to make; I cannot survive a day without at least an hour in tongues. I absolutely cannot function if I don’t boost my inside with tongues.
This is a good thing. But it almost tilts into a bad thing when my flesh doesn’t feel like praying but I know that I must pray. So what’s a girl to do then?

#Enlist The Help Of The Holy Spirit!

IPL blog family… I have found the Holy Ghost to be an ever-present help and enabler in prayer!
We see passages like the one below:
“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
Acts 6:4 KJV
And we wonder what it means.

What does it mean to GIVE YOURSELF continually to prayer?

It means that you make yourself available to pray. That’s the first step to praying; AKA “just show up”.

I can personally testify to the truth that 90 percent of the time I don’t feel like going into my prayer room (which is my kitchen by the way 🙂 ) to pray.
My flesh fights it. I make all sorts of excuses. But I remember that I have to show up first and MAKE MYSELF AVAILABLE TO PRAY. Then the Holy Spirit can take over from there.

In the month of July we prayed every Sunday at the women at the well. Just gathering together as the Spirit leads. In all of those times we didn’t even have prayer points but we prayed for more than 3 hours at a time.

As a new Christian in University, when I was called on to lead prayers, I would write down the prayer points from home. I didn’t know that there was another realm where you can just show up, turn over the prayer meeting to the Holy Spirit, tell Him you don’t even know what to pray about and let Him fill up your prayer time according to the will of the Father!
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered….”
How does this work practically?

I will use my own prayer time as an example.
Sometimes God points at an area He wants me to pray about. Say maybe about my future husband’s family but then I don’t even know what to pray about for His family.

Let us pray:
(See previous post for complete prayers)
Day 18
Prayers for his nuclear family/my in-laws ***************** -The Lord tabernacles over your home even
now; you are all filled with the joy of the Lord. -You are all knitted with the joy that is not bound
by circumstances or situations.  .
.
-I speak forth that you are all tied with
cords of love – the God kind of love. You are all
constrained by the love of the Lord.  .
.
. -And these same fruits of the Spirit shall
govern our lives even when I come into your
home as a new daughter in Jesus name, amen.

This is me half of the time. I don’t know how to string the words together. So I show up at my prayer spot even with my flesh screaming “no” (by His grace, I show up) and then I turn the prayer time over to the Holy Spirit.

How?

Here is a sneak peek into my prayer time:

1: I worship: I just praise the Lord and sing to Him.

2: Intimacy: I speak to the Holy Spirit.
I say “Holy Spirit, you are the Spirit of prayer and supplication. I don’t know what to pray about. Come help me pray out the mind and will of the Father”.

3: I start tonguing:
I speak in tongues. I just speak in tongues and start listening to His voice on the inside of me as I pray in tongues

4: I start to hear Bible passages in me.
The Holy Spirit ALWAYS prays with the word. His prayer for us always align with the word of God. At this time scriptures I have not even remembered in a long time start to come to me and they come in contexts I could never have thought of on my own.
The Holy Spirit is giving me the sword of the Spirit for the situation.
“And take the….and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
Ephesians 6:17 KJV

5: I start to wield the sword in prayer. Declaring the word and decreeing as He gives me the word.. all the while also speaking in tongues and in my understanding also as the Spirit gives me utterance.

Sometimes while praying this way, when I didn’t even know if I would spend 20 minutes in prayer, I end up spending an hour and when I am with sisters praying we spend hours without even realising how much time has gone by.
The Holy Spirit Jesus gave to us as a gift is our entry into intimacy with God in prayer. He is the way through which we can reach into the Father’s heart and pray EXACTLY what He desires about a situation.
I didn’t even know this and cannot remember how I stumbled on this. All I know is that every time I turn over a prayer time to Him, He takes over in ways that I cannot explain.

If you have been struggling with your prayer time, from today enlist the help of the Holy Spirit.

He is always there on standby. Waiting for you to just say one day: “sweet Holy Spirit, Spirit of prayer and intercession, I don’t know what to pray for but I want to pray and I am here. Take over”.

And He will overwhelm you in ways you cannot explain.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit I understand that you are the Spirit of the Lord sent to be my helper. You are the One who knows the mind of the Father and my Father graciously sent you to me to help me in prayer.
I am sorry for going on my own. Please help my infirmity in prayer. Take over my prayer life. Give me insight into the Father’s heart and help me pray according to His will.

****
Try this, this week. Purpose to GIVE Yourself to prayer even when your flesh is screaming and when you show up just talk to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to take control and see what He will do.
Further Word:

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever– the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.”
JOHN 14:16‭-‬17 AMP

I would love to hear from you if you have an experience in this. In what ways have the Holy Spirit helped you in prayer? How do you relate with Him in intimacy and relationship during your prayer time.
Comment below with it. I am reading 🙂

Till our next online Bible study,
Love,
Frances
Ps: And another credit and honour to the Holy Spirit. All posts on the blog including this are all His. Half of the time I don’t even know what to write including today. But I take my phone and ask Him to anoint my fingers and thoughts and write what is needed and He simply takes over.
Thank you Holy Spirit!
