Early this year I sat in on a conversation on “why do we pray?”
It was an ordinary looking discourse in itself.. that is, till I got up the next morning and found out I was struggling with going to my prayer spot to pray. No kidding!
The enemy literally hijacked that discussion to sow seeds in my heart. Like, “is this even working?”
Why am I sitting here to pray?
Isn’t this a joke?
You would think that for someone like me that would be an over-flogged game that wouldn’t work but I kid you not that it literally began an armory of Satan’s lies hovering over my head.
I prayed through the sense atmosphere (in tongues) wanting it to lift and it did when I heard the Lord say to me – INTELLECTUALISM IS NOT GOD!
Let’s look at the meaning of intellectualism for a moment;
Intellectualism denotes the use, development, and exercise of the intellect; the practice of being an intellectual; and the Life of the Mind.
- Source, Google.
The definition of intellectualism denotes the process of using one’s mind to make life decisions. A process of reasoning and critical thinking. The process of using one’s mind thoughts to make and inform one’s decisions.
God told me this – INTELLECTUALISM IS NOT GOD.
He didn’t say it isn’t of God (there is a difference) He said it isn’t God!
Let’s take a minute to explore what He means.
““For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
-Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV
God is not saying “don’t think” but God is saying the process of using your own thoughts to order your life and make decisions as to what should be or not isn’t my way.
I think, God says, but my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. So if you depend on your own thoughts you may totally be missing me.
In this instance of the enemy using the thought of “why do we even pray” to want to erode my prayer life (hope you know that that’s how people give up on their prayer disciplines because a wind of a though whispered in their ears that it’s a waste of time? God saved me) God was showing me that I cannot decide of what use prayer is by analyzing it with and in my mind. Rather I have to go to Him to learn about His thoughts about prayer.
And He showed me that I and you can get His thoughts about a matter and that becomes God.

How to decode the wisdom of God

So we can think the thoughts of God. We can get elevated to a higher plan where it’s not our own thoughts speaking but we thinking and speaking forth the thoughts and wisdom of God.
How?
1st Corinthians 2 comes to the rescue.
Please follow this carefully:
“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
-I Corinthians 2:7-12 NKJV
In 1st Corinthians 2 Apostle Paul starts to talk about how when he went to Corinth to preach the gospel, he didn’t want to bamboozle them with intellectual talks or wisdom so he simply relied on only preaching JESUS.
But he also said, however there is a wisdom in God. There is the wisdom of God which God hides from people but reveals to us IF WE HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD.
He said the Spirit of God knows God’s thoughts and if this same Spirit of God is in us He will reveal to us the thoughts of God so we can elevated to the plane of God as against just relying on our own thoughts on a matter which God has already said it is far beneath His thoughts.
Do you see this?
God is saying “it’s not that I don’t want you think and process your thoughts and be intellectual” but the key is getting my own thoughts about a matter. I want you to get my wisdom and not the wisdom of the world (or your thoughts).
So where the wisdom and thought of the world may say “of what use is prayer?”
God says bring that thought to me and let’s analyze whether it’s on the level of low thoughts (your own thoughts) or God’s thoughts. What are God’s thoughts about whether we should pray or not?
That’s what you should adopt.
Another thing I want to say is that intellectualism itself could actually be another form of spiritual warfare.
Actually it is.
It is the reason why some people lose their faith today.
Look at this scripture;
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.”
II Corinthians 10:3 NKJV
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
-II Corinthians 10:4-6 NKJV
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:12-13 NKJV
The Bible starts to talk about how we are in warfare and this warfare is not a flesh battle; it is a battle against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. So it says TAKE UP YOUR ARMOR AND WEAPON OF WARFARE.
Ephesians 6 lists the different kind of weapons we have against this spiritual wickedness and principalities and powers and 2nd Corinthians 10 goes on to say something PROFOUND!
It says these weapons of our warfare ARE not fleshy weapons but they are meant to cast down thoughts, strongholds of the mind that are not aligned under Christ! So this scripture is actually telling us that when you receive a thought that can cause you stumble like when I did on the thought about “why we pray” I wasn’t just receiving an intellectual thought or discuss but I was literally under “spiritual warfare!”
That thought that wasn’t aligned under Christ was sent to me as warfare!
What is satan trying to achieve? He is trying to cause me to stumble in my prayer life and make me an open door for him as a prey.
Some of you receive thoughts like “why do you believe in God?”
You sit in atmospheres that are rife with ungodly thoughts and you say “it doesn’t touch me”. It takes only a moment – quiet moments for Satan to keep bombarding you for that thought to make sense to you and you fall for that and you fall into Satan’s trap.
This is how pastors become atheists. It begins with a thought sowed into your heart. It comes like a fly you swat away and comes again and again and again.
What do you do then?
1: Never take intellectualism as something you play with.
These are literally demons sent to wage war against your walk with and in God. And it can be in any area! As long as that thought is not aligning to the thoughts of God, it’s a literal battle that has been brought to your battle ground and you better see it as such!
2: Roll out your warfare weapons;
For me I kept praying in tongues, because praying in tongues is praying in the Spirit of God and I was asking The Spirit of God to overshadow these Lying thoughts in my mind. I was also praying for Him to speak against this heavy artillery that had been brought against my mind.
You would have to take the spiritual weapons of your Warfare – prayer, confessions, the word of God to pull this down!
3: Release the word of God out of your lips;
After God speaks to you and give Him your thoughts. Confess it and say it to yourself! In confession and as an act of warfare against those lying thoughts! Get your head in the word of God and confess that word till satan knows it, you know it and God knows this is what I stand for! I stand for the mind of Christ!
I will think the thoughts of God!
Nothing more and nothing less!
Finally know this:
“For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
I Corinthians 2:16 NKJV
The scripture says you have the MIND OF CHRIST!
When you were recreated in God you were given the mind of Christ so you are meant to carry His thoughts!
Declare that in prayer and send every contrary thought right back to where it belongs INTO THE PIT OF HELL!
When you encounter the heavy artillery of intellectualism coming against you, do not look at it lightly. Many a saint have fallen because they didn’t know intellectualism’s deadly game and intent against them.
Bring every thought under submission to the thoughts of God!
YOU HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST!
