In Him: The Only Way We Can Fulfil Our Purpose

‘For IN HIM we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

-Acts 17:28 NIV

IN HIM was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
-John 1:4 NIV

Remain IN ME, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
-John 15:4 NIV

I was at YWAD (Youths with a difference) event on Saturday.
I spoke on “Being a 21st century Jesus lover” (now if only I can get the video clips. Yomi? Thank you. Lol).

That morning I woke up with “in Him was life and THAT LIFE was the light of men” ringing in my heart.

The previous day at The women at the well online Bible Study, we had studied Joseph on “the process of birthing a dream to life” and those words “in Him” kept ringing in my heart.

I believe that those two words “IN HIM” are very profound.

It doesn’t say “with Him”, it says “IN HIM”.

What does IN HIM mean?
The Amplified version does a good job of explaining this.

“Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”
John 15:4‭-‬5 AMPC

It says “vital union with the vine”.
In other words “intimacy”.

I have explained this using a husband and wife relationship here before.

You see, our relationship with God is not meant to be just touch and go. Here today and gone tomorrow.
Neither is it meant to be just full of activities (fulfilling purpose and working on our assignments for God).
Our walk with God is meant to be IN HIM. We having an intimate relationship with Him.

Just like its only when a husband and wife have intimate moments that they can bear children, so also it is only when we have intimate moments with God that we can bear fruits and run in our assignments for Him. Else we would just be running on empty.

I can testify to this truth.

I never ever wanted to do “big thing for God”. I mean He had saved me from the dead life I had before so all I wanted was to be in Him. He gave me so much joy it was insane. To know Jesus more and fellowship with Him was my heart’s pleasure.
And then suddenly He said one day to “write a book“.
I screamed “no”!

But that was how the story began.
Ladies ministry.
Conferences.
He is still leading me today.

But the biggest lesson I have learned is NEVER to let my relationship with Him die.
I can do nothing except IN HIM and when I leave Him I die slowly without even knowing it and its the same for us all.

God has worked out this purpose and work for Him so brilliantly.
We cannot work for Him without WALKING with Him.
And that’s all well and good because as it is, it is only when some of us see the fumes from our almost empty relationship with Him that we go back to Him.

He has made it so that even work and assignments – divine assignments can never satisfy us.
The fulfillment of those assignments will give us happiness but ONLY HIM CAN SATISFY OUR SOULS.

Isn’t this our God a brilliant God?

Encouragement:
Go back to being in Him.
He loves you. And yes He wants to use you as His hands and feet to walk in His purpose for your life but He needs you to remain in Him first.
Only IN HIM can you do what he has given you to do for Him.

Only IN HIM can you give out the light that you want to give to the world.

What does remaining in Him mean? How do we go about being vitally united with God?

We will try to explore that next week.

In a world with a lot of noise and activities, we pray that God helps us all to build intimacy with Him in Jess name, amen.

Till our next time on here,
Love,
Frances

    Amen!

    Thanks Frances.

“IN HIM we move, we live and have our being”. There is really no life outside of Christ.
