Guest Post: We Have A More Sure Word Of Prophesy By Temitope Banks

Hello Sweeties…

Happy New month!
From January to December 2014, God has been faithful!!!
So was this year really our year of greater?
Well, I will leave that answer for another post but what I do believe is that the year isn’t gone yet, we have some 27days to still get some stuff done and get some goals clicked and I say let’s go for it!
Get whatever goals you can still get done!!!

I apologize for Monday’s Inspirational drive not being up on the blog this week.
Or you didn’t notice?
*Wails* I am not doing something right on the blog then…

I had issues with my site and I was so scared that I would lose all my writings. If you did click on this blog on sunday/monday, it opened up to a white blank page. But that’s all sorted now… (side note, bloggers, back up your blog ohhh)

So, today’s online Bible Study was sent in by a wonderful lady, senior colleague of mine (yeah, I am rubbing the lawyer thing in your face, hehe)
She sent it in as a guest post but I thought it was too in depth to be left as a guest post so let’s have it for Bible Study today.
It is my dream to make our online Bible study not just from me on the blog but I foresee a time when readers will be so caught up in the word, they will set themselves down to study something and share with us all here.
And just in case you have caught the bug of the word already and wanna share, just send your article to my email to okorofrances@gmail.com

You can also send in your guest posts, words in you that you know will uplift us all and I will publish them on the blog.

So blog fam, I give you Temitope Banks…

Every individual has the innate desire to find out what the future holds for them.
People want to know how successful they would be come the next day or ten years down the line.Isn’t this the reason people flock to churches where they ‘see’ so that they can ‘see’ for them?

In traditional societies, when a child is born the parents would consult diviners to foretell the future of the child. Even in modern time, the ‘GRAND INFORMATION AGE’, people visit psychic websites to find out the horoscopes for the day, month and year, whether or not their zodiac sign is compatible with their spouse.

In Acts 16 v 16-18

16 ‘And it came to pass,as we went to prayer a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us,which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17. The same followed Paul and us,and cried saying,These men are servants of the most high God,which show unto us the way of salvation.
18. And this did she many days. But Paul being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out of her the same hour.’

Reading the above scripture we can see that though the lady was saying the right thing, the source of her information was wrong! The bible condemns all form of spiritism, mediums and the occult. (You can read Deuteronomy 18 v 10-12, Leveticus 20 v 26-27)

In an uncertain world we all crave for some form of assurance that our tomorrow would be better than today. According to a market research report by IBIS WORLD,the psychic services industry in the United States of America is worth two billion dollars.

In my personal life, there was a time when i would check psychic sites to ‘see’ how the week, month or year would go. Let me ask you have you ever checked your horoscope? Do you live your life based on a zodiac sign? *side eye, don’t lie o*
Anyhow,it was so bad that if a guy was asking me out, instead of praying about it, i would quickly check if our signs were actually compatible. *stares at my feet*

There was this particular guy whose zodiac sign and mine was very compatible according to the astrologers (Pisecs and Taurus). Ya girl said yes and started dating the guy based on this fickle reason. To cut the long story short the relationship ended very badly.

In essence all I’m saying is I too have missed the mark in this regard. You see we need to come to that point where the word of God is enough! As believers we must take heed not to seek assurance from the wrong sources.

1 John 4 v 13

‘Hereby we know that we dwell in him and he in us,because he has given us his spirit’

As believers we have the Spirit of truth in us and the Bible makes us to understand that the Spirit of God in us would lead us into all truth(EMPHASIS ON ALL not SOME).

I am not talking about hearing voices in your head no!  The truth remains God speaks to his children if not why would Jesus say ‘ My sheep hear my voice and the voice of a stranger they won’t follow’ (paraphrased)

Therefore if we have Gods spirit dwelling on the inside of us we know what to do at every point in time. The Spirit of God in you won’t lead you to do anything contrary to Gods word. Thats why it is important to be full of God’s word. Shikena!

I told you about how my ‘horoscope’ based relationship ended up in disaster, well after that experience I sat myself down and went back to the scripture to find out Gods mind about relationships and marriage,I studied books that I had read before on Godly relationships and marriage (but forgot the principles). I left the whole issue at Gods feet and stayed in a place of rest.

Six months after the very terrible break up I met my husband. The light of Gods word in my heart made me ‘see’ him when he came, there was no super spirituality about the matter. Enough said.

Recently a friend asked me this question ‘Should a Christian consult a prophet to know the mind of God concerning his future?’

Lets read scripture:

2 Peter 1 v 16-18

16. ‘For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ but were eye witnesses of his majesty.

17. For he received from God the father honor and glory when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved son,in whom I am well pleased.

18. And this voice came from heaven we heard when we were with him in the holy mount.

19.We have also a more sure word of prophecy;whereunto ye do well that you take heed,as unto light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the daystar arises in your hearts.

From the scripture above, though Peter and the other disciples witnessed God acknowledging Jesus as his beloved son on the mount of transfiguration and other manifestations, he is saying their faith in Jesus wasn’t based on the voice they heard but on the ‘sure word of prophecy’ that is God’s word in scripture. Am I saying not to go to a prophet? Thats your choice. The fact that there are fake louis vuitton bags in the market doesn’t t mean that the original doesn’t exist.

1 Corinthians 2 v 5
“That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God”

I believe there are real genuine prophets but your faith in God should not be based on the word of a prophet. I am not of the school of thought that condemns the people who operate in the prophetic grace. No but I don’t subscribe to believers becoming vision and prayer collectors either. Remember you have Gods spirit in you and YOU have access directly to God,so the thing you want a prophet to tell you,ask God and his spirit in you would reveal it to you. In this dispensation of Grace, the people who walk in the prophetic should confirm the things God has spoken to you privately.

Don’t become a vision collector or prayer collector looking for the latest prophecy. Don’t allow any man become the assistant Holy spirit in your life. YOU HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD.

I would end with 1 Thessalonians 5 v 19 -21

19. Quench not the spirit.
20. Despise not prophesying.
21. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22. Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus.

You know, you can only hear from God when you are on a spiritual high. If your spirit man is dull, forget it. The flesh cannot get the things of the Spirit…
So again, I will encourage you all, if you can come for the conference, please do.

We will have ministers like Nathaniel Bassey, Pastor Chintok, Pastor Ben Akabueze and more…

*Screams* I missed you. Was looking out for Monday’s post. Settle well and I am definitely looking forward to the feed from the conference. And I’m so sorry about what went wrong with the blog. I have to learn now, and do some backing up ASAP.

“Don’t allow any man become the assistant Holy spirit in your life. YOU HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD”…This!!! God bless you, Temitope. You couldn’t have said it better.

I used to be a zodiac sign patronizer till my eyes were opened. The NLT version of the bible in Isaiah 46:10 says- ‘Only I can tell you the future before it even happens.’..Reading and understanding this passage satisfies my curiosity.

God bless you ladies. More grace! I love this post.

      Awww, thank you Precious!
Your comments always warm my heart.

And yes, some passages in Isaiah specifically warns God’s people not to meddle in seeking the future from dead spirits and idols who are just mere woods… going ahead, even those who profess to be mediums, mediating btw the spirit and man are not to be consulted by us.
We have the Holy Spirit within us, we should desire Him enough to know that He can lead us into all truth, all we need to know.
I loved this post from Temi too…
Hoping that one day you’ll send in? *fingers croSsed*

And I am also looking forward to sharing the word gotten from the conference too..dont want anyone to miss it 🙂

God bless you Tope for this. This whole running around for a prophet to “see” something baffles me. Why not let God speak to you and then maybe confirm by a prophet not just a total dependence on them.
I pray many more people get to read this.

I guess most persons don’t want to invest the time needed in seeking God gracie…
Maybe we think it’s easier to just consult someone else..but is it easier?
We have a free direct acces to God himself, if anything is easy, it’s that fact.
I pray we all take the path to God each and everytime.
That’s the only sure thing for us.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us..

@Chinomso That scripture does justice to the whole discuss, because Christ lives I know my future is bright and so no need to stress myself.
@Grace *hehehe* The truth is as beleivers we all need to grow up and stop playing church or religion. The fact that you attend a word based church or your Pastor is ‘worded’ doesn’t mean that as an individual you are ‘worded’ When we become full of Gods word certain things just fall into place. Thank you zFrances for the opportunity to share.

Thank God i’m back on. And indeed even as God sees us through, we also will endeavor to seek Him rather than things that can’t take His place no matter what…
