I went for my January 12trip challenge on saturday(yep, done and dusted! Details will come later 🙂
I know the challenge is all about going alone even if there’s no one to tag along but on friday, I found myself asking friends if they wanted to tag along.
As a matter of fact, on saturday when I wanted to step out of my house, I went to call another corper to accompany me but it seemed like the universe was conspiring for me to go alone. None of the plans worked
After having an amazing time though(I finally went alone), I met awesome people who were my photographers for the day.
I got thinking about this twosome and threesome mentality that has so eaten deep into us.
The average person does not want to go it alone.
Yes, we need people in our lives, we are not meant to go it alone, we need support system…I know.
But there’s an almost unhealthy dependence on others when we want to fufil our dreams and desires.
We don’t think about our own determination to get things done, the first thing we worry about when God drops an idea in our heart is “who will support me? What will people say?”
But should that be the first thing to think/worry about?
The first things first is getting God’s backing and then the rest depends on us.
Whether you like it or not, people won’t always support you or tag along with your vision.
Why?
Well, they were not given the vision, you were given.
But there’s no denying the fact that we do need people in our lives journey.
So what can we do?
I’ve found out that once we get started on what we are meant to do, those we need are naturally attracted to us.
So you set your heart on achieving your dreams and God sends you someone who is an absolute blessing to you.
Don’t ask me how this works but I have found out that when I put God first and then start out on what I need to do, even if I need to do it alone, people I need just come across my path.
But I don’t have an absolute dependence on them, I have an absolute dependence on God and with Him alone I can do what I need to do.
Don’t get me wrong, we do need people on our lives journey, people who stand up for us and support our dreams…
But all I am saying is this…
This year, don’t let the fact that you have to set out on your own dreams discourage you from going out there.
It’s your dream.
No one else owes you a fulfillment of those dreams but yourself.
So stop sulking about the fact that you are not getting support from anywhere. No one owes you the obligation to support you but yourself.
God sends someone to help you out, praise God!
He doesn’t send you someone, praise God!
Step out anyway.
Row your own boat.
Reach forth and claim the stars you already see in your minds eye.
Go hard.
Go alone.
Bring those dreams to reality even if you have to go it alone.
And Happy new month people!
I hope you didn’t sleep on your goals this past month?
You’ve been booting up right? Making plans, drawing up schedules?
The year’s running, let’s run along with it please.
Don’t wake up in December depressed about not doing anything.
I wish us a year of fulfillment of our dreams even if we have to go it alone.
Much love,
Frances.

February 2, 2015 at 8:45 amHahahahaha!! O the almighty “12 trip challenge”. Girl, we’re definitely on the same pedestal I tell ya! cos I’ve just finalised my plans for tomorrow’s trip and then went on to check my mails and boom! this comes in hehehe!! I couldn’t go on a trip last month cos of a hectic work schedule sadly so I’d have to do 2 trips this month(I so ain’t giving up o!). I “might”send pics of my trip to you Frances if it turns out to be a great day hopefully lol!! And the theme of this article is so apt and very true. Reminds me of a saying I heard once that has stuck with me ever since” Do not expect people to understand (or support) your creativity when God did not give them your vision”. Have a blessed week and month everyone

February 2, 2015 at 12:31 pmWow Cynthia! I admire your determination to keep on with the challenge!
The fear of going on two trips in February was the reason why I had to get myself up by fire, by force.
Lol.
Thank you for sharing that quote with us. It’s so apt.
Sometimes we expect our family and friends to support us all the way but sometimes they support us, sometimes they don’t. We cannot just bury those dreams cuz no one else sees the vision. They weren’t given the mandate, we were.
Do send me pics when you go on your challenge.
Would be nice to see this advance further..others will be sooo motivated 🙂
Have a great time tomorrow…
Cynthia

February 2, 2015 at 8:58 amYay!
I believe that one with God is majority.
One secret though, I haven’t written any goals yet
The things I want to write are so big to me that I am scared of writing them
They are achievable by God. I just intend to be following Him and obeying Him
As I go.
I will write them today. I don’t know what is delaying me. I will write them though.

February 2, 2015 at 12:35 pmI understand you Tessa…I was almost paralyzed with fear when I wanted to write my 2015 goals..i still am sometimes but look on the bright side.
The dreams have to be so big to get you scared and of course, the more difficult it is to men, the more glory God gets when He brings it all to pass.
Fear can actually be a great thing, it strengthens our dependence in God more and more and God always comes through for those who trust Him.
Feel the fear and write your goals anyway.
I wish you all the best(est)!

February 2, 2015 at 2:56 pmPhew!!! Frances, just yesterday I was dreaming of the trips I will be taking..12 trips challenge is still on. It has to happen (by His grace).
I love what Tessa said: ‘One with God is a majority’. I had to learn this lesson last year. I do falter, but God is teaching me that there is a time for doing it alone and doing it together. Most times, we have to do it alone first, before doing it together; or it could be the other way around. But what is key is that; our dependence must constantly be on God.
God bless you for this piece. I am inspired. Happy new month and have an amazing week. xx

February 2, 2015 at 7:11 pmYay!
Princess for the win!
Can’t wait for the trips to start rolling in 🙂
And yes, everything we do should be fixed on the source-God…no one else.
If He deems it fit to bring human help, fine..but we shouldn’t get it twisted..

February 2, 2015 at 9:42 pmI was thinking today, “who will support me”. I spent so much time talking to myself that I didn’t make sense. Then this post reminded me, there is God oh.
Thanks Frances. xxx

February 3, 2015 at 2:58 amYes Keke, God will support you. You’ve got Him? Then you’ve got all you need.
He will make it all fall into place.
I pray for a year of fulfillment of all God has placed in you.
Nothing will hold you back..not overthinking issues or anything else.
You will fulfil the purpose for which God created you in Jesus name, amen.
xoxo 🙂

February 3, 2015 at 11:45 amSometimes people are held back from fulfilling purpose because the await, joiners, cheerers, encouragers. Some time we have to go it alone knowing that God is with us.
You are very courageous Frances and that is a key need for the life you must exemplify!
Frances Okoro
February 3, 2015 at 3:09 pmThank you so much Aunty Ugochi…
Made me remember the movie “courageous”..had to do with godly father’s sha but still…God will give us more courage to conquer fears and thoughts of “what ifs”
We will fly with God on our side..(cue Tessa, one with God is majority)

February 3, 2015 at 9:52 pmi visited no where in January but I’ve been trying to recruit people for my February trip and it seems futile and almost discouraging. i don’t know how but I’ll do it.
Frances Okoro
February 5, 2015 at 12:41 amVicky, when I put up the post on my trip for this January, you will see how this recruiting people almost foiled my plans.
By all means ask others if they want to tag along but if they don’t want to, go out there.
Talk to strangers, ask them to snap you pictures.
Don’t worry about who you will meet, I always meet awesome people and it will be same for you.
Just step out first of all.
When you do, send me pictures oh. This one will be a big testimony.lol.
*hugs*
Vicky
February 10, 2015 at 9:24 pmHahahaha, a great testimony o *hugs back

February 6, 2015 at 3:44 amLOVE THIS! Kudos to you Frances for taking the trip solo 🙂
I know this “doing it alone” topic well. As someone who is naturally introverted and enjoys alone-time quite a bit, I also get panicky about doing the things God has called me to do without support. (even now, I feel I am “doing it alone” in many regards). However, I continue to remind myself that the Bible is filled with stories of people that had to, for some period of time, walk towards the call of God on their lives ALONE. This is also true for people we look at today that achieve significant and impactful feats. And like you said, I believe that as you step on in faith, those you NEED will show up in your life through divine intervention but, you must start alone if no one is in your corner. I think of Abraham and how he was called by God to leave his hometown, kinfolk, and travel to a new and unknown land. He must have had some anxiety and doubts yet, he did it anyway because he had enough faith and trust in God. And now look at his legend today – “the father of many nations”.
Frances Okoro
February 8, 2015 at 1:36 pmThank you for this Ada…
This was a much needed addition, for us to learn from others who had walked the road alone before.
You are right.
Abraham was basically stripped by God.
Like “leave everyone…you follow me and go with me to where I will show you”.
Destination unknown sef.
I wanted to do a study on something close to this, still on Abraham and I will get to it now that my attention is called to it again.
When we look at people in time past who stepped out in faith even when they had to go it alone, I believe that we will know that we are not alone.not at all.
When God is with us, as He was with the ones gone by, He will bring all to perfection.
