I had no sooner sent a BC on BBM for last week’s #OnlineBibleStudy when his ping came in…
“When will you ever send me a message to ask me how I am doing?”
I left his message for a while as I tried to decide on the best way to answer him but I found none.
I was really feeling out of sorts that day but spoke to him like normal, did some catching up and forgot about it (actually this post started ringing in my head then)
On friday while I was struggling to get the post for saturday’s love letters done, his words came to me again…
That day I was struggling with scheduling posts with a network that just disappeared when I wanted to schedule posts and I wrote some stuff on my PM (actually I ranted for a bit)
Now, no one knows what people who write/blog go through to get posts up.
That particular wednesday when he sent me the ping, I slept late and woke up early to put up the #OnlineBibleStudy.
Our Bible study is always the longest kind of posts we have on the blog and I type 2000words or more with my phone for it every time we have it.
I study the Bible for myself first and usually use my jotter before transferring to my phone so I can upload, then if there’s no network, I usually climb the hill close to my house just to upload the post.
Someone once told me that he has never seen someone who has so much passion for what she does like I do but I admit, sometimes it gets tiring.
I send a BC of a Bible study that blessed my life and can bless yours too and all you have to say is that I don’t “say hi” to you.
I mean, I personally know that I falter in the communication department (thank God for friends that understand me, those whom we don’t talk for weeks but pick up where we left off when we talk), but it’s not like I have all the time to chat just because I send you BCs of links to my blog.
When I was in law school, I used to wake up at 4am to write and schedule posts, then read for a bit, exercise, shower and go to class.
Sometimes, I used to send BCs of links to posts I had written while I was in class. So why would anyone think that I have all the time to chat just because I send you BCs of what I write?
Sincerely, I thought that I had passed this test on being a people pleaser before now but it seems like I haven’t.
Last year when I moved to this site from my word press blog, satan totally dealt with me on the “comments, appreciation and accolades issue”
I almost shut off comments on the blog just so I won’t be worried when I don’t see any comments.
It wasn’t by play play that I had to get “Joyce Meyer’s book – Battlefield of the mind” and dig in.
And I know that I am not alone in this…
Fellow christian writers/bloggers, what happens when you are not being appreciated for your efforts on writing for Jesus?
What happens when the accolades don’t roll in as much as you think that they should roll in?
What happens when you go through the hours on end just to put up a blog post and then don’t see as much as one comment on it?
What happens when you climb a hill, walk around your street at night just to look for network to put a post up (my situation most times) and no one says “well done?”
I know the answer to all these, it is one that God has taught me before and one that necessitated this post last year but obviously, a lesson that I have to learn again…
FIX YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE.
What prize?
The prize of “well done good and faithful servant”
The prize to be gotten for being good stewards of the gift that God has given to you.
I’m not perfect and this blog itself is built on our imperfections.
I think I lost track for a bit on what this is all really about.
The more I struggled with putting up a post on friday, the more I saw my friend’s ping on “saying hi” after I had just sent a post I labored over since early that morning.
I should have seen Jesus, not his ping.
Yes I have to work on my communication issues, but no, his message shouldn’t have thrown me off track from what I am meant to be doing with my gift for God.
And accolades from men or the lack thereof shouldn’t be your drive either.
And it was as if God knew what was going on because I opened my YouVersion Bible app on my phone and guess the verse that was on the homepage that day?
Hebrews 12:1-3
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside Godâs throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you wonât become weary and give up.”
I think it’s really so easy to lose focus and fall off track when we take our eyes off Jesus and what He has called us to do.
It has nothing to do with men and it has everything to do with Him.
For me to go on a rant on my PM means that what men do/don’t do still shakes me – meaning I still have to let this lesson be drilled into my head.
Are we writing for the applause of men or the applause of God?
Only God’s accolades matter on this journey of using our gift of writing to glorify Him.
More often than not, men will rarely give you a compliment.
If they do, glory be to God, if they don’t, as long as you are all good with God, you are fine.
Stay on track with Him and don’t get derailed.
The prize to be gotten from God at the end of the race is worth a million times more than anything men can give you.
1Corinthians 9:24-25
“Donât you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.”
God help us all as we fix our sights on Jesus and not on men even as we use our gifts for His glory.
Have a great week ahead everyone!
Love,
Frances.

June 8, 2015 at 11:34 amHmmm,I just smiled through reading this article. We all struggle most times when we put in a lot of work into our sites and the accolades do not commensurate with hard work however,as with every area of life when we are consistent and persistent we would definitely get all the rewards. Like you mentioned focusing on the Prize is very important.
Having the right attitude through it all is also imperative and yeah our faith walk shouldn’t be relegated when it comes to our sites,we should call those things that be not as though they are. Isaiah 2:2 is one of my favourites ‘All nations shall come to my blog’ lol (sorry for this epistle) . Our words frame our world so for me its immaterial if I don’t see one comment right now,I just keep on declaring and when the clouds are filled with rain, the rain would just be falling plenty.
Abeg let me stop.

June 8, 2015 at 10:48 pmTope, long epistle kwa? You just shared scriptures that we should continually declare(like your study yesterday says
The right attitude you spoke on hit me too. We could be doing what God has told us to do but grumbling..no, it shouldn’t be that way.
Being joyfully and enthusiastic about it does is.
#grace on us all.

June 8, 2015 at 12:30 pmAhh! Frances, you’re not alone. Just last week too, a friend asked me if I had checked on a mutual friend in a while and he even called me a bad friend. I later told him that the truth is that we’re all at different stages in our lives and one can’t keep up with everyone! When I later checked on the friend, she was just giving me attitude but I pretended not to notice. People don’t check on you too, but think it’s ok for them to be vexed with you.
I woke up 4:30 this morning to put The Word up though I have an interview. It’s not that it’s very easy to blog o, after writing, editing on its own is another work.
But we do it for Jesus. We do it for Him!

June 8, 2015 at 10:52 pmAbi oh Bolaji, I was tempted to say “if you want hi, say hi, give some love, you”l get some too”.
It’s not by first to check on you, you can check on me too if I dont..but oh well.
Jesus not men is the one we look to.
Hope your interview went well?
Gist moi later oh.

How awesome is it that you wrote on some lessons on blogging for God today too..there’s really a whole lot God can teach us on this journey if we listen and imbibe.
God. Help us all and I know He will and He is, even now…

June 8, 2015 at 11:26 pmI feel you on this one Frances. Your are doing an amazing work here on the blog, your messages are reaching people, making a difference and it is clear that you do it for God.
1PETER 4:10 “use whatever gifts you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various form”
This is my scripture and it reminded me to fix my gaze on Jesus. I live for him and pray that I can somehow serve my relationships well. I forget to check up on people but I always pray for people that would understand that I on a journey as well.

June 9, 2015 at 9:56 amOh Keke..i should do a study on “gifts” according to how God wants us to use it and let it sink into me too.
I know what it says, but there’s something about it coming alive in our spirits
Our gifts aren’t meant to be for us. It’s not for me, it’s for others, that’s what my Lord who gave me the gift intends me to do with it – serve others.
I think that command will straighten my head too when I am tempted to do down the deep end.
And oh yes, I guess if people know that we are also on a journey, we will be more understanding of each other’s communication. I’m speaking to myself on this too.

June 23, 2015 at 10:01 pmTo show u how lazy ppl r to comment, blogs u know of pay or rather give incentives to thise who comment.
Rather than give up, think of ways to provoke conversation. The way the post ends can invite people to drop their opinions.
E hugs

September 2, 2015 at 1:56 amHello Frances, nice to meet you. My first time here. I love your blog. I’m sorry my comment here is going to be very long.
This post got me smiling.
I remember a certain time I decided to quit blogging. No comments, no feedbacks, no replies, some nasty comments and remarks from friends whenever I missed sending a post, and all of that.
I was really discouraged and felt like my writings were going nowhere or not encouraging at all. So I just decided to delete the blog and quit writing.
Before I did that, I made a prayer, tabling all that complaint before God. I gave Him a condition (something I wouldn’t do now) that if I have to keep blogging, I needed some encouragements, something to prove that people were somehow encouraged/inspired/blessed reading my post.
I did shot the blog for a couple of months, no internet, no social media. One day I decided to check my email and surprisingly I saw hundreds of mails from my newsletter subscribers inquiring about the blog, and story-telling how much my writing has helped them in their relationship with God…
I found some encouragement in that and resumed blogging. (Kind of selfish right?)
But one key lesson God taught me that period was from Romans 8:18: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
The Lord mercifully and explicitly made me understand and reminded me that there is a reward, a glory awaiting us for whatever we do in His name.
So whether we get applauded, appreciated, encouraged, in our service to Him or not, whatever is the word suffering means to us as individuals, they are nothing compared to our future glory and reward in God.
I had never looked at this scripture in this light. But i had learned that comments or not, feedback, replies, encouragement from friends or not, I was going to write as though I’m writing to God.
I have noticed that Christian writers and bloggers are the least applauded or appreciated and awarded (if i may add) people. But I like to encourage just as you advised that we keep our eyes on God, for He doesn’t owe any man, He always get to reward His people.
Thank you very much Frances for sharing this encouragement.
Hope to visit here more often.
Blessings to you my sister
Love, Grace.

September 2, 2015 at 7:22 pmHello and welcome Grace!
Please don’t apologize, we(I) loooove the long replies!
It’s amazing how God used your break to even let you get the truth that everything we do for Him can never go without reward.
I loove God you know. Your conditions and all, He didn’t even bite, He just made you know and taught you lessons on what writing for Him should really be.
Thank you for sharing.
I am certain that when I need it, I will be visiting this posts and comments here time and time again.
And yes! I hope to get to know you better 🙂
Welcome again
