If you follow me on twitter or facebook, you would know by now that one of my favourite pastimes is going to the rooftop of my hostel, with earphones plugged in, stare at the skies, wonder about God and just worship. One of the songs I listen to is Hillsongs-Lord of Lords. I have the video but I don’t really watch it, I just plug it in,stare at the skies and just worship.
Today in court though, I watched it… and I hear someone asking me how I had the time… Well you see, being an extern in Federal High Court is a crazy thing. You have to go early, stand at the door and wait for the registrar to open the door so you can rush in to get a seat..so the period when I am waiting at the door can be used for something-most times for reading the bible/speaking in tongues/listening to music/watching videos like today.
So back to my gist… As I watched, a post I had written and lost when my phone crashed jumped at me.
As you well know, I am a simple girl from Ughelli Delta State and somehow somehow, I have never been to a show before. So when I resumed at law School last year, I decided to go for Guiness colourful world of more. I attended with a friend, and I did love Waje and Chidinma’s performance but mostly, I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. I mean, so this is what everybody talks about and it seemed like I am a JJC for going to one previously? Blehh! For one thing, the shaking of bom bom on stage was one kain, and the grinding bodies and guys just shouting and doing anyhow was annoying too. And as Dbanj sang, I got something in my spirit which I wrote down(I’ve lost the post but will try to reproduce it here)
It just hit me there… Frances, do you see God in all this?
And back to Hillsong’s video I watched this morning… I was mostly lost in the expression on the congregation’s face, with hands lifted up singing to God from the depths of their hearts, purposed indeed to lift God’s name high… And in that kind of “show” your soul is refreshed. In that kind of “show” where you don’t know whether to sit, kneel, prostrate to worship our God..where His majestic power and greatness seems overwhelming… the feeling is too much for words to describe. And I didn’t get that feeling from guiness colourful world of more. I wanted to feel like it was fun, but it wasn’t. I can’t say that I haven’t sang to Davido’s aye since then or bumped my head to Dbanj’s top of the world.. but the kind of supercharged atmosphere worship brings, “aye” doesn’t cut it. So what am I trying to say? We should focus more on feeding our spirit instead of the flesh. I am not holier than thou, I still struggle but we all know what we feel when we tune into the spirit. There’s something about a room full of people with hands lifted up to God in worship.. There’s something about it that even “Aye” can’t describe. We know how hard it is to tune back to God when the flesh overwhelms our spirit man and believe it or not, the songs we listen to matter.
And if you still think that there are no good gospel songs, click on the link to see Eziaha’s post on gospel songs here. I believe it will help.http://eziaha.com/2013/12/15/viva-naija-gospel-artists/
So I leave you with Hillsongs Lord of Lords today, please go and download it, and as you worship, please pray for our Chibok girls. Worship and prayers together? Awesome!
PS:A senior esq shared this on facebook and it resounded with my thoughts on Nigerians bad mouthing GEJ. Its about time we stop flapping our mouths alone and start doing something. Nigeria is us and not just GEJ. https://m.facebook.com/Serlony/posts/10152005385971536
PPS: I need help oh, Ist class Mrs Eziaha, I need to know how to get both reading and externship on point. Its kinda “somehow” managing my time. I need someone to be hounding me night and day to read. If anyone else can help me with tips, please do too. Bar exams is 98 days away.
PPPS: I can’t help but say this. I am not sure the person wants the name out there but someone surprised me with a drive in to see me at school on wednesday. I slept with smiles that night and the memory still warms my heart. God bless you bigly… You make me think of purposing in my heart to leave everyone I come across with smiles on their faces…
So have a worship filled weekend dearies. I am off to an owambe someone invited me to. Would be nice to really see what Yourubas do in this owambe stuff. Whether it is a wedding or something sef, I don’t know. Lol.
Have a great weekend.
*Love.
And I wrote the above yesterday, but there was no time to post it. Turns out that “owambe” was a burial reception of sorts with plenty food, plenty drinks, lots of souvenirs and lots of gists… Had a great time. Twas a great way to end my week. Now on to the books.. lol
Have a great weekend too loves..
Remember, feed your spirit.
*winks.
And someone has to please lay hands on me and deliver me right now from this E’s PPS. Dr N? Please oh, I need those laying of hands now.lol

May 10, 2014 at 2:04 pmEerrm, what is an extern?
Someone once told me “Watch what you feed your soul.”
The title of this post just reminded me of an enriching album I listened to this year; ‘Feed Your Soul’ by Christa Wells.
Grace & Peace.

May 11, 2014 at 3:06 pmyay! Thanks Tony, will search for and download the song..
an extern here means a law school student on court and chambers attachment(the word attachment is wrong sha, should be externship, just using that to explain)

May 11, 2014 at 11:17 amI haven’t been to a show either Frances…lol….anyway u r so right bout choosing the kind of songs we listen to. I was so into Wizkid’s ‘Caro’, really feeling the tunes, one day I just had to delete it. I had to choose which side I wanted to b , either hot or cold. Honestly its not that easy ‘cos I still hav d tunes goin on in my head *covers face* but I pray God gives us the grace to let go of all those things that won’t help our spiritual life IJN, Amen. 1 Cortih 6 vs 12 kind of relates to it too. Have an awesome Sunday Frances.

May 11, 2014 at 3:04 pmyeah, nor cover face Temi, songs we listen to have a way of replaying in our heads and even during our quiet time too, its a serious something..tis the reason why we have to take “guard your heart” seriously..
hard but so far as we are willing, God’s grace remains.
enjoy your day.
*Love

May 13, 2014 at 12:24 pm” Thereâs something about a room full of people with hands lifted up to God in worship.. Thereâs something about it that even âAyeâ canât describe. We know how hard it is to tune back to God when the flesh overwhelms our spirit man and believe it or not, the songs we listen to matter.” That is it right there. Worship Songs have a way of penetrating through our system and touching areas we didn’t even know needed touching. God bles Hillsong. Their songs take me to another realm entirely.
PS: I don’t know if this “we didn’t even know needed touching.” Is correct.
imperfectlyperfect92
May 13, 2014 at 2:32 pmCorrect or not, even me don’t know, lizzie will help with that but till then,i want to borrow your English Mayowa.worship does have a way of taking us places and touching places in us and in our lives that we may not even know need touching..
It’s amazing really what worship does to our soul and spirit and how true worship indeed moves God..awesome awesome!

May 13, 2014 at 3:04 pmWhen i newly got saved(all babyish & naive) i struggled with the Holy Spirit about what i fed my spirit; from dark twisted romantic books to metal rock to Nas-maroon5-Michael bolton-lil wayne-LLCOOLJ-wizkid-Chris brown-Nickleback-Fela & many more…
Until i came to realise that the life i live is no longer mine(Gal.2:20), that my body is a living sacrifice & temple of the living(1cor.6:19) and saw(Eph5:18,19_Gal.5:16:17).
Then i submitted knowing that whatever i put into my heart is what flows.
And of course;
1 Corinthians 10:31 that says: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.[NLT]

May 13, 2014 at 3:51 pmThanks for sharing these verses dear, will meditate on them.
May God help us win this oh cuz the way stuff bombard youths now eh, books, movies, songs…as we desire to grow spiritually and feed our spirit rightly, may God continue to fill us with grace as He always does.
It’s a battle we shall win.amen

May 13, 2014 at 3:22 pmAnd yeah! There is something deeply passionate, soul uplifting and love consuming about a house filled with worshippers; it transcends biological family. Like when i represented my dad at the FULL GOSPEL BUSINESS MEN’s FELLOWSHIP conference/seminar (na me young pass 4 there dat day lol), i was moved by grown up men worshipping God in deep baritones that exumed glory&total surrender to Jehovah. Wow. Then i got what worldly-unedifying music couldnt give me; spiritual upliftment.
Ofcourse i began to let go of the worldly music. I am still letting go by God’s grace.
imperfectlyperfect92
May 13, 2014 at 3:55 pmAmen oh, we are all letting go and have let go already sef.
And you just wrote one of my-should I say turn on? Grown women and men just worshipping regardless of whatever they wear/who they are, tears streaming down their faces, tongues blasting out, true worship and adoration to God..kai! That kinda atmosphere is too much for me to even describe.mit always blows my mind! How God’s presence just flows..kai!

May 13, 2014 at 8:36 pmNa so! I just can’t resist a worshipping house.
