Faithfulness: The Reason Why I Do What I Do

When I started my blog in 2013, I had no idea on what the blog was really about.

Then in 2014 after Law School everything changed.

I had spent some time after Bar Finals waiting on God before I traveled home and one of the things He spoke to me about was the blog.

Contrary to what I thought, the blog wasn’t just a blog, it is a ministry for Jesus. Bringing light and truth to people.

The blog according to God is a huge part of what He has for me to do for Him. And He ended the whole talk by saying “stay faithful with the blog”.

A lot of the persons I meet end up saying just one thing about me; “I love your consistency and faithfulness with what God has given to you”.

I do not stay faithful because it is an inbred trait in me; far from it. I think I have a short attention span and if care is not taken I can jump from one thing to another.

No, I stay faithful because it is an instruction to me from God and looking at the little journey I have been through, God sure knew what He was saying when He said “stay faithful with the blog Frances”.

That same year I went all out with the blog, self-hosted and all the works, I also wanted to shut down the blog. I wasn’t seeing enough applause from men and kept wondering whether the work was making any difference till God delivered me from being a people pleaser. Actually, my deliverance is still ongoing.

The truth is,I do all I do both the blog and other assignments and stay faithful because God said to stay faithful.

Even all through last year when I was weary in spirit sometimes and wanted nothing more but to roll over and play dead, that instruction was the only thing that kept me running on the things God said to do.

Some days I woke up and wanted to let things lay fallow but I would keep hearing “stay faithful with the blog Frances” ringing in my ears.

I confess that it hasn’t been by my strength alone; it seems like God poured out grace on me along with that instruction… but I can safely say that the reason why I can find the strength to even type this post right now is because I want to be a faithful servant.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

-Matthew 25:21

The three servants in Matthew 25 have always been my push to do what Jesus says to do.

When I lack the strength to go on like I even did today, I go back and dig into that parable and ask myself “which of these three servants are you?

Somehow I find the strength to run again.

Faithfulness is a great virtue to have as you walk in God’s purpose for your life because God rarely ever gives full-blown gifts to begin with. He gives deposits in little forms, 1, 2 and 5 and says “go and work with this”.

Only the faithful can cultivate those deposits and get them to grow into something worthwhile like God has ordained for them.

It takes faithfulness because like all seeds God gives, it takes time to grow. The seed has to be plunged into the ground, then it has to be watered, watched and prayed over just for a tiny shoot to appear above the ground.

If it’s not carefully cultivated, it can also wither and die. The sower has to be faithful all through the process and it is not an easy task. This is the reason why the third servant found it so easy to simply bury his talent and wait for the master to arrive rather than go to work and stay faithful like the first two servants.

“He who had received one talent also came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to be a harsh and hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you had not winnowed [the grain].
So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is your own.”

-Matthew 25:24&25

He thought he was taking the easy way out as he would still be able to give the master that same talent back but the master was furious with him.

“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.
For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

-Matthew 25:30

In the kingdom we belong to, faithfulness is not a virtue to be trifled with. It is of immense value to God. Only the faithful go to work with their talents. Only the faithful cultivate their deposits. Only the faithful bless lives. Only the faithful sow their seeds, birth their man-child and do not abort their spiritual seeds.

Only the faithful survive on the path God has called them to walk on.

I hope that you and I are among the faithful servants.

Till next week,

Love,

Frances

    We stay faithful.
Whether we feel like it or not, we stay faithful.
Whether it makes sense or not, we stay faithful.

“Being confident that He who has started a good work will be faithful to complete it.”

I recently got a direction to start up a project but had cold feet at first ,even while I started ,some encouraments and some discouragments but the Lord has been my strength. He remaineth faithful. He that called you to this task will see you to the finish.
