“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (KJV)
“But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” (ESV)
-1Corinthians 9:27
On Saturday we had an amazing time with the women at the well ladies and gents (or you didn’t know men were allowed? oops!!LASTMA) (you can watch the videos HERE)
And the Holy Spirit showed up in such an amazing way. We had God leading us to come back to Him. To return to our first love (Revelations 2) and I was the vessel He used to speak on that. I personally was convicted in ways I cannot explain. I was just used as a vessel as even the message was for me.. but then I woke up yesterday and had the verse above ringing through my head.
“I keep under my body.. lest that after I have preached to others I myself would become a cast away”.
There is a message in here for ministers but then it speaks to me more on discipline.
As we saw in last week’s post, I am currently on a journey to tightening the lax holes of indiscipline in my life based first of all on exercise and eating habits.
I cannot very well share on things like that and be found wanting and the answer Paul gives is that I have to discipline my body and keep it under. Even as regards spending time with God, it takes discipline to get out of bed when we should.
Walking in God’s purpose for our lives and staying on track also takes subduing our body to do so.. nothing great ever comes from having lax holes of indiscipline in our lives.
Even Jesus lived as a man on a mission and one who was dedicated to subduing His body to achieving that mission.
So what is the word saying to everyone who desires to what they have proclaimed to do?
What is the solution to doing what you have preached to either others or yourself?
“But I discipline my body and keep it under control…”
Discipline in simple terms is saying yes or saying no whether you feel like it or not.
Having control over what we do and not being blown about by things that should not be our god.
Is it easy?
No.
But this week I want us to explore the power God has given us over indiscipline which is this:
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”
-2Timothy 1:7
This power is in us already, I personally want to tap into it.
NOTE: We may fall on some days and that’s okay, we are turning around on a whole different trajectory. But let’s not get weary.
This week… I will write the vision on discipline in the areas I want to change. I hope that you will too.
Let’s meet here next week and encourage each other towards purposeful living.
Till Next Time,
Love,
Frances
