Firstly, this is me saying congratulations to all my personal persons who just passed out of NYSC! I am very certain that for everyone connected to me, this is just the ‘start of the overflow of God’s blessings in your lives.

God has not even started with you all yet, just wait and see His glorious plans come to fruition in your life.

What I really feel on this day of love is gratitude-gratitude to God from the depths of my heart…the reason why? Of course I’ll share with you.

You see, on this exact day, Feb 14^th about 3years ago, I was shattered, bruised, not only from my heart being broken by someone else, but from my heart being broken by me.

I didn’t love myself enough to believe that I was something good. I didn’t love myself enough to believe that I deserved better than a guy who was a pathological liar, smoked marijuana and gave me a pair of earrings worth 50naira as a valentine gift + also made me cry on the same day. I didn’t love myself enough to know that I was worth way better than I settled for. I broke my own heart even more than he did and I do not want to break your hearts also by not sharing that which I should today.

I wrote about letting the love flow through us to all around us on Feb 14^th   and beyond on my last post and that’s terribly important but there’s something that’s even more important than the love which you give out to others….

The love which you give to yourself.

Do you love you?

Do you love the one you see in the mirror?

Take away the weight you want to lose, take away the additional height you wish you had, take away the legs you wish were straighter, and take away the scars on your face from pimples…

Look closely, look at yourself really closely; do you love the one you see in the mirror?

You can scream to the ends of the earth and back that you love your boo today if you so desire but I assure you, even the type of boo you have right now is hinged on this question….

DO YOU LOVE THE ONE YOU SEE IN THE MIRROR?

Nemo dat quod non habet(you can’t give what you don’t have).

You can’t love your ‘the one’ and the less privileged you desire to help if you don’t love you.

You just won’t have it in you to spread the love forth.

Do you know that you don’t have to stick with that guy who treats you like shit just because it’s Valentine’s Day and you don’t want to be alone?

Do you know that you don’t have to accept trash from her just because you need to appear to have a lover for February 14^th?

Can someone love you enough to let you know that you deserve better?

Can someone love you enough to not let you settle for less?

Can someone love you enough to let God separate you from that terrible guy/girl and place your heart in the hands of the one who deserves one that has been intricately crafted in love by an awesome God?

Can someone love you enough to let you know that one who has his/her name tattooed on the palm of the God who created the heavens and the earth deserves better?

Can someone love you enough to let you know that the one whom the God that sits above the circle of the earth calls the apple of His eyes should let go of that substandard relationship you have right now and let God fill you with nothing short of perfection in Him?

Can someone love you enough to let you know that God has greater things in store for your marital life if you just let go?

Can someone love you enough to let you know that you shouldn’t stick with the one who has no iota of respect for you and relegates you to the deepest background there is just because it’s Valentine’s Day?

Can that someone be you?

Can you love yourself enough to know you deserve better?

You do deserve better and I pray you find the strength within you and through Christ to discover this like I did.

Let the one who loves you enough to let go of that no-good relationship be you.

Let the one who loves you enough to not settle for less in relationships  be you.

It seems so unreal when I think about it all now, was I really in such a stage in my life? It doesn’t seem like I was. That phase seems like it happened so long ago, to someone else other than me.

But that’s what God does when He steps in. He washes you and creates a barricade between who you once were and who you are right now/who you’ll become.I feel like the past never existed.

And God can do that with your life too.

Just let go, and let God.

Today, February 14^th2014, three years away from the start of the rest of my life, I am grateful.

I am grateful to my beautiful father.

I love Him.

I love the God who made me me and I totally, absolutely, irrevocably love this tres awesome me.

That’s all that truly matters.

I was 8years old when I had my first love? Maka why na? I’ll have you know my momsi was still locking us up in the house by then (strong woman)and I tell you the truth, my heart knew not what crush was except you count the one I fell in crush with while peeping from our gate sha but I kid, I kid. The popular general consensus from the comments also seemed to be that I was 12years old….Haba! at that age, I was in a boarding school, one with just girls and in JS3. Still a very little girl so as as how na?

Anyways, I did finally have a first love at 14, and it wasn’t really a real thingy as we didn’t  see each other physically, (era of phones, if not I would have had it at 18/19 like Femmetotale said. btw,only God knows what happens with kids that get phones like me with no real knowledge about what they should do with it o, I digress, but we really need God help for our future kids o) and I lied about my age + plenty love story I can’t tell jare(I can see your long ears perking up already.lol) but it was my first encounter with ‘love’ – the type my immature mind understood it to be then.lol(thank God for God)…
