The story of my book launch will be incomplete if I do not start from the very beginning… the beginning of when Genesis came into my life.
We weren’t really close and I didn’t even know his name even though we served at the same official PPA during NYSC.
I had sent him my first book “Chastity For Men” and later on when we got talking, he was giving me ideas on the book and encouraging me… and I let the word about my second book “10 Steps To Walking In Purpose” slip out.
I told him “I am thinking of organizing the book launch as a wrap up of the seminars I do in secondary schools and plan on inviting some persons”.
He immediately took it up and gave me ideas on what to do, he encouraged me strongly that yes, it would work out.
I don’t quite know how we transcended from him just encouraging me from afar to him going on the book launch journey with me to different offices but I just would like to start this book launch story by saying thank you Genesis.
The day you called and said you’d stay back after POP for us to do everything concerning the book launch before leaving Ekiti left me speechless.
Like I said in the acknowledgment page in the book, I believe that only God did a work in your heart for me.
You’d say “Frances call me when you are stepping out” and you’d meet me up on your own expense.
Even on the book launch day, you were running around for fuel, ice block, taxi deals, and then you were still the moderator of the event.
I had helpers all through this book journey but you… you thrilled me.
I told my bestie who came from Kogi for the book launch when we didn’t know how to convey the sound system that Genesis would have a solution and true to that when you came, you immediately set out to charter a taxi to transport everything.
You took my dream like your own.
And the funny thing is we weren’t even close before it all started.
I’m thankful to you.
And while I’m on the story of helpers on this journey, let me roll out my thanks…
I’m thankful to Dumebi Ezar and her hubby Tony Ehigiator also.
I still don’t understand how one meets someone online and then that person and her husband too just undertake to help that person as if they have known her from Adam before.
Your sacrifices still blow me away.
Your prayers… you both just pumped me full of the Word and amped my faith before you sent me out of Ibadan on the night I picked up the books.
Oh, God bless you both… in awesome awesome ways.
My Pastor, Nathaniel Bassey. Awww, I don’t know how to start.
Just… I am thankful for you allowing yourself to be used to help this small girl.
I trekked around lots of pastors offices here in Ekiti and got lots of “No(s)”, so when I say thank you sir, I mean it.
Thank you to everyone who attended the book launch, you guys are the very best.
Lily, one hug and tears on your shoulder on the morning of the launch reminded of the reason why we are always going to be besties and sisters.
Thank you for your sacrifice… Even on that day you came, I worked you ehn. I love you babes.
And now, onto the main gist about the book launch…
Of course, from the details shared in my vote of thanks above, you already know that planning the launch took sweat, tears and lots and lots of prayers from me so I won’t go into that.
On the morning of the launch we still had more “sweat” to go through.
We arrived at the School hall and set up the sound system and chairs.
Then I and my bestie had to go back home to dress up and by the time we were done, guests were already calling me that they were around.
We would have made the 12pm start time but only thing was there was no fuel.
Genesis had called me that filling stations in Ekiti didn’t have fuel and so he was going around town to look for fuel and there’s a testimony in here.
When the programme ended he told me “Frances God is really with you”.
It turned out that he almost went out of town in search of fuel, saw the queue and sat down in one corner, only to hear someone call his name out of nowhere in a strange place like that. He turned back, the guy was someone who lived in his street who is a supervisor in the filling station he happened to bump into. In no time, the gallon was filled and we were on track again.
But by then my chief launcher had been waiting for hours. The guests from Ministry of education had come and gone.
I was a bit frantic but my friends were telling to calm down… and we finally started up.
Opening prayers were done by a student, and we had Mr Kayode from EKSACA speaking to the students about HIV and Aids (thank you sir).
After then my citation was read and I spoke to everyone on “purpose”.
Why I wrote the book and why everyone should absolutely find and walk in the purpose for which God has created them.
You can watch my speech on my youtube channel here or watch the video at the end of this post.
It was surprisingly a moment where I had the words coming from my inside even though I had been restless with worry earlier on.
Ah, faithful God!
I know the words sank into hearts because I got a feedback that made me know my prayers for the seminar/launch weren’t in vain.
Then we had students from Ado Grammar School acting a drama on “What is your purpose in life”.
The next programme was for the launch proper.
I wasn’t inside the hall as I had to step out to take calls to direct the president of FIDA Ado-Ekiti to the venue.
But still, that segment was awesome.
Thank you all for your support!
And my best moment came on when we had to give out free copies of the book to the students.
I had some amazing persons sponsor some copies and we gave out 20copies to the students.
This was my best moment because I could literally feel my heart bursting with love and joy and fulfillment.
I wish someone had told me when I was in secondary school that God had a plan for my life.. I wish…so if God is using me to fill that need in lives, why not?
We gave out free copies to those who acted drama and to students from the other school who attended the launch.
Then hah, we had some questions thrown at the students for the brave ones to come and answer.
Questions like what’s your gift?
Okay, display it for us.
You’d see me with my wide smile below watching a student sing for us… Loool. It was heart warming!
The final questions were for those who had issues with stepping out to use their gifts and of course a central issue with them was fear.
I asked them if I looked confident to them and they said yes… then I told them that I also feel fear lots of times.
But the deal is stepping out anyway.
No one can fully know what this book journey took from me but God.
The tears and literally jerking motions and gasp for air all because of fear.
I felt it all.
But then on the walk of purpose, you must lay aside the weight of fear.
We had the FIDA president speak to them on what to do to overcome fear and I believe that the students left there more confident about using their talents and gifts in their walk in purpose.
My friend and fellow author, Stanley also advised the girl who said she was shy to step out and not look at people when she does so.
It was a powerful segment… one that had me knowing without any iota of doubt that I was right where I needed to be.
And at that moment, it didn’t matter who attended the launch and who didn’t… I knew that take away all the money and what not, I will still do this over and over and over again.
Which is the reason why my work in schools hasn’t ended with NYSC CDS, it has only just begun.
And then after this session, we had to wrap up.
But by the time we said the closing prayer, with me praying that every word heard by the students will be seeds that will grow and germinate in their lives, I had joy just brimming on the inside of me, joy to overflowing.
And that’s how I and my friends started dancing when everyone had gone. Lol.
We danced and danced and David (a friend who helped with the sound) danced like David danced in the Bible!
We had a photo session of course with the students…
With the books… and speaking of the books, OmG, autographing copies gave me a thrill like no other. loool.
My friends even made it seem like something big, they refused to take their copies except I wrote something on it… I be feeling fly. hehe.
We cleared the hall, waited for the taxi man to arrive and meantime, we kept gisting and laughing.
Just generally goofing around.
I realized that what we were making right at that moment were memories that will last a lifetime.
Wherever God takes me, whatever else He wants me to do, I will always remember October 22nd 2015 as a day when I launched out into the deep and while pushing out a book on purpose, I also stepped into another dimension in my purpose in God.
I will always remember this first book launch of many book launches to come as one where God was my anchor through and through (as He would be for every other one to come).
I will always remember it as a journey in my life where I finally understood the meaning of divine helpers… not the ones you force to help you… divine helpers that go all out for you and your dreams.
I made a promise to God to help others with God-given dreams as He gives me grace to do so because it’s hard… its terribly hard when you start out your walk in purpose… I know how hard it is and I pray to lighten the load on people who come across my path in the future.
And yep! The launch was over but I felt like appreciating Genesis and my bestie Lily so we made plans to go out and wrap up the day with food.
The three of us had barely eaten and were totally tired!
So we met up by 8pm and went to Portophino (hope I got the spelling right), an eatery here in Ado.
It was an evening of laughs, happiness and just a round table of a young man and two young ladies with stars in their eyes.
Lilian was as usual cracking us up with her stories and turned Genesis into a photo freak which I am not certain he is… we totally bent him and made him love pictures by force.
And more than that, when it was time to go and say our good byes(not forever goodbye oh, only after the outing), I almost got all mushy because I still couldn’t find the words to tell Genesis how much I appreciated him.
Again, he gave me words of advice that I soaked in like the sponge that I am and I still couldn’t get my lips to work up the great words to express my thanks to him.
But where did I meet you Genesis???
Even here God placed people who helped me… even in the land people say contains nothing, I found a gem with a different mentality from others… a gem who would allow another gem to shine it’s light like it should.
I cannot go into how Genesis made me gain an inkling into just how great God’s going to make this.
He’d say at different times as we went out, “Frances, you won’t realize what you are doing now but there are people that started just as you did and in two years they couldn’t believe where God took them”.
I learnt a lot from him on this journey and still he would tell me, “I have learnt a lot from this journey with you Frances, especially the God factor”.
When he just blurted out “Frances, God is really with you” on the day of the launch, my heart sang.
I know it seems like I am gushing about this my particular helper but he deserves it.
Try to organize something in a place where you know nobody and almost everyone you meet tells you “no” and you’d also appreciate the one helper God sends you who is actually worth more than 10 helpers.
And oh Genesis blogs at www.therealgen.com
I only saw his blog after everything and again my gratitude level shot up because I didn’t know he is a big shot oh. There’s no way I could have afforded him if this was a business transaction. Nope. No way.
“10 Steps To Walking In Purpose” book journey has been a journey worth going on.
I had a friend asking me about how I did it all and I am still not quite ready to go into that.
Like I said here in this post, I might run a series on writing a book process for Christian authors like me.
As God gives me the words to do so/when I am ready, I will go into it.
Thank you so much for your support everyone.
I know I had people praying for me, even those I have never physically met loving me with prayers.
By next week or next two weeks, God willing, the e-copies of the book will be available for download and details for how to get it/book readings and discussion on purpose/giveaway will be shared here on the blog.
This book is more than just a book people would buy and read. We would be having sessions for discussion from which I pray men and women just gain more clarity/direction on their walk of purpose.
So keep in touch on the blog and book page here.
For my people in Lagos, something’s brewing and I might be in Lagos soon so you can get your copies then.
By next week, clear details on bookshops to get copies wherever you are will hopefully be available.
And finally, to my Lord and God, King and owner of my heart… the one who raised me from the dregs and gave me a purpose in Him… the one who deemed it fit to wash me off of my past and make me this brand new bride of His… using me for awesome things I never foresaw… the one who keeps springing up surprises in my path… I say thank you Lord.
I love you crazily.
I love you madly… you know I do Lord. you see my heart. You know that you are the only wind beneath my wings. Every other physical wind flows from you.
Over and over again, I am awed by what you have done/are doing with me.
To You, lover of my soul… I say thank you.
Till I bring more details on “10 Steps To Walking in Purpose next week,
