#Online Bible Study

A Valuable Investment

So as part of my #fitfam things, I walk falomo bridge to and from Ikoyi everyday I have to go to court. As I was staring at the water while walking by last week though, I got thinking about Peter and his episode with Jesus-the walk on water story. Matthew 14:24-33 (please whip out your Bibles and read) Ok, here’s Peter walking on the water and all of a sudden, he started sinking. What happened

between the minute when he was walking on the water and the next? So verse 30 says, when he saw the strong wind and waves, he was terrified and began to sink.

I will interpret that to mean that when Jesus told him to come to him while walking on the water, Peter’s eyes were on Him, but as soon as Peter let go of his gaze on Jesus and fixed them on the strong wind, he started to sink. That sound familiar to you yet? Well, it does sound familiar to me, even as I meditated on this, a mad man just walked past me and I could feel my heart leap into my mouth. What was it that I felt?… FEAR.

And the Bible says Peter was terrified… terrified is even a higher word for fear. That’s a big part of what makes us sink when we should be gliding on top the water without being ruffled up.

Jesus also told Peter, “you have so little faith”… How is it that at the sight of problem we forget what God has done in times past? I mean look at Peter, Jesus had made him walk on the waves just a minute before but then he forgot that. Even when he was still walking on the water, he doubted. We forget so soon that the same God who delivered us before can do even greater now. Pastor M said in JUG that we shouldn’t forget the former testimonies this 2014 (see the post here http://imperfectlyperfect92.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/just-us-girls-more/ )

Apart from the fear issue, I was thinking about some other things as I meditated on the story. The Bible went on to say in that verse that as soon as Jesus stepped into the boat, the wind stopped. So was it that Jesus’s spirit wasn’t with them before? Why was the wind raging when he wasn’t there? Why did he even allow the storm to rage? Then I went back to Matthew 14:22, Jesus was the one who actually insisted that the disciples get into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake. Didn’t he know that there would be a storm? Of course he did. He is all knowing. So why did he allow them to struggle with the waves? Why are you on that tough road you ask? God didn’t promise us a smooth journey but he promised that he will be with us every step of the way.

Verse 27 of our passage says that Jesus said “don’t be afraid, take courage, I AM HERE” But just as the disciples saw Jesus and thought he was a ghost when he came to them, some of us don’t also recognize his voice saying “I am here”. We chose to hear instead, the sound of the strong waves. If you are not certain that God is here with you, you can take a step of faith and say like Peter “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you walking on the water” The water could be whatever you are going through, and if it’s really God telling you that He is here, you will glide on towards Him through the storm.

Peter asked Jesus to save Him when he started sinking and Jesus did chastise him for his lack of faith but still, he helped Peter. God still answers us, but you gotta call on Him. Finally, even after Jesus came, throughout his conversation with Peter, the wind still raged till he stepped into the boat… The storm may still rage but that doesn’t mean that Jesus isn’t there with you, it may take a while to get out of the water into the boat where the storm would stop… The trial may not end automatically, time may have to pass by while the storm still rages… Just know that Jesus is there with you, he has said so himself.

I think faith is worth investing in, don’t you think so? Let’s ditch the fear and stand on faith. No matter how much the storm rages, it can only bark, it can’t bite. PS: #We worship continues today. I will be fasting and worshiping along with all comments dropped on that post and Yewizzy, I saw your comment. No, you are not late. You can all drop your comments too, the link’s below.

#We Worship

And uhm, remember one of the things I worshiped for was for my Brother’s job he interviewed for? On Friday he pinged me that the job just got confirmed. The pay is almost 3times that of the other company I wrote about that didn’t confirm him. I’m mega grateful Lord.

You still doubt that faith still works? Please check out these posts of mine, trail the journey and tell me if faith in God isn’t worth investing in. http://imperfectlyperfect92.wordpress.com/2014/03/17/our-reality/ http://imperfectlyperfect92.wordpress.com/2014/03/31/i-testify/ http://imperfectlyperfect92.wordpress.com/2014/04/15/yes-he-knows/

awww, congrats to your brother Frances and yes, He said, when you pass through the fire, I will be with you. He said “When and not “If” and so we trust him to be there to see us through even to the end because His grace is sufficient for us.

“The storm may still rage but that doesn’t mean that Jesus isn’t there with you, it may take a while to get out of the water into the boat where the storm would stop”……. This is so true……we need to invest in faith, never to take our eyes off Jesus.
