Chastity For Men Project (Series) Frances's Love Letters Love&Relationships

Silas Abangu: Victorious Living

Dear Lovers of Frances’s Love Letters,

I hope you all had a very fulfilling week?

Your response to the first post on the #ChastityForMenProject was overwhelming.

I do not regret opening up about what God has done for me even for one minute. My prayer for this series is that even if just one person starts walking in victory over lust, then God be praised!

We’ll be reading the first personal story  from the first man in this series today.

I met him when we were at Law School last year and we both served in the exco body at the Church fellowship for law school students then.

Please read, share with others and let them know that they are not alone and need not hide in shame.

We can live victoriously over lust through Christ Jesus – men and women alike.

Silas Abangu

The greatest journey in human history is not the journey to stardom, fame or wealth but the journey of life itself. In life’s journey the rough path of singlehood is strategically placed. Make or mar your future, how you deal with your singlehood plays an important role.

The Psalmist asked a question in Psalms 119 v. 9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? (NIV).
The selective use of the phrase “young person” is critical. This is because a young person is strong, zealous, adventurous, full of energy, could be gullible to the times and open to a lot of choices.

In the journey of becoming who we want to be, a lot of evil pose a great threat. Pornography and masturbation is one of them. Masturbation is a silent killer and somehow it’s gaining more grounds in this generation than ever. Masturbation is a sin. The Bible did not make mention of it but the Bible says our body is a temple of the living God. God is holy and masturbation is unholy. God cannot behold iniquity with his eyes.

My name is Nachanuya Silas and this in my story. My story is one that does not have a clear beginning as I cannot say exactly say how it all started but I just discovered that I was into it. The most interesting thing about my story is that, unlike it’s unclear beginning, it has a clear and definite end.

I cannot remember masturbating in Secondary School (am sure I didn’t). But four years into my five years journey in the university, I suddenly realized that I use to wet my pants anytime I run a sexually immoral thought in my head. Little did I know that the devil had a collection of all the sexually immoral experiences I have ever seen in my life, be it live, in books or movies.

SPARTACUS!!! if you have not watched the series I beg you not to watch it and its kind.
What the devil does is strategic, precise and well planned. Anytime am alone or idle, he (devil) will just send one of those graphic images or thought to my mind and before I realize it masturbation is on.

The devil is a professional and an idle man/mind is a perfect workshop. Please always get busy doing something.

Let me share a thought here; it is better to be busy doing nothing than to be idle (a perfect workshop) to be used of the devil.

One good thing with a bunch of evil vices I must not forget to mention is the INTERNET. It has a lot of advantages but the devil is fast exploiting its disadvantages. Surfing pornographic sites on the internet fueled my fantasies while I was still suffering from the demonic oppressions of masturbation.

Let’s cut to the chase here, when you are doing it (masturbation or even watching porn), it seems pleasurable but when you are done, you will feel guilty and miserable. That begs the question what is pleasurable about an act that makes you feel guilty and miserable afterwards?

The worst thing about the sin of masturbation just like other sins of addiction is that you may not just decide to leave it someday and be free at once (though it’s possible with God). It requires strong effort, determination and the help of the Holy Spirit.

While I was seeking a way out of the jail of masturbation, I resorted to a lot of helpful means. I will like to share some with those that may still be struggling with this sin.

Some of the steps I am about to list out a curled from a book titled Overcoming Masturbation by Pastor Bimbo Odukoya (may the Lord bless her sacred memory).

(1) It begins with your personal decision to be free from the sin of masturbation.

Never forget that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4 v 13.

(2) The WORD of God and the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8 v 6-7.

(3) Take control of your mind.

Romans 13 v 14, Romans 8 v 6, John 8 v 34 & 36, 2 Corinthians 10 v 4-5.

(4) FASTING and PRAYER.

Jesus said to His disciples; watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Matthew 26 v 41.

(5) Work on your victory one day at a time.

As I said earlier masturbation is an addiction, you may not be free from it in a day. 1 Corinthians 16 v 13, James 4 v 7, 1 Peter 5 v 9.

(6) Set goals of abstinence. Flee from sexual immorality.

1 Corinthians 6 v 18. I personally call this the JOSEPH OPTION. You remember the story of Joseph? (Genesis 39 v 1- 12.).

(7) Become accountable to another Christian.

I know it’s difficult because masturbation is a shameful sin but ask God to direct you to the right person. Proverbs 28 v 26, Psalms 141 v 4-5, James 5 v 16.

(8) Change your thinking habit. Romans 12 v 2.

(9) If you yield to temptation, confess as soon as possible, don’t dwell on it. For every one look at your sin, look ten times on the MERCY of Jesus Christ.

(10) Grow Spiritually.

(11) Watch your company.

Bad company corrupt good manners.

(12) Avoid pornographic materials. Smartphone users be careful what you surf on the internet. Pornography is a forerunner of masturbation.

(13) Conduct self assessment on all the above from time to time.

Finally brethren (waoh, I feel like Apostle Paul right now, LOLZ), where you are coming from does not matter now that you are here but what matters is where you are going to.

You may have committed all manner of despicable sins not just masturbation but the Lord Jesus is offering you the gift salvation. If you accept this gift of salvation, it will place you on the very first step towards achieving your God given destiny. If you are willing to accept this gift of salvation right now, I invite you to say the prayer of salvation and ask God to come into your heart to stay and live in you.

You can live victoriously through CHRIST.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and how you overcame masturbation with us Silas.

I read your story and I was just saying “hallelujah! Hallelujah!”

Why?

Because I remember having a conversation with a guy that told me that masturbation is the only thing that keeps him from not having pre-marital sex.

Oh, how satan has toyed with our minds!

All lies from the pit of hell…exchanging one sin for another when we can just rely on the Spirit to help us live above lust.

If you are a man and you are struggling with this, I hope this gives you hope that you can live victoriously over lust through Christ.

You can reach Silas via his contact above, that’s why he shared them. Having a fellow believer who has been there to speak to us always helps.

Do share this post like you did with the last one please and even share it personally with friends you know who are battling with lust.

God bless us all as we live for Him.

I believe so too Dr N…when you know the shackles are all cut down, you are bold in Christ…He simply just wants to be there for other believers who struggle like he did.

And this advice would go a long way..
