Fasting For His Presence

Hi blog fam!

This will be a quick one, I am kind of rushing off. I had planned to put this up really early by 5am but long story on why it is coming up now, hopefully those who can do this can still jump on board.

Last year when I was led to go back to Ekiti State, the state where I served during my  NYSC year, I had no idea on what God wanted me to do there. It was a very weird period of my life, one where I literally was walking on water.

Well, at Ekiti, I felt led to fast. I basically fasted for almost the entire time I was there. One of the fast I did was a corporate fast with the women at the well ladies; for those who wanted more of Jesus.

We fasted for a week but my own fast led unto our December meet in Lagos.

What I was basically asking for was “Lord fill me up with yourself, Jesus bring me deeper into you. Let me know you more”.

I cannot start to explain what that fast did to me. All of a sudden I would wake up for my normal 12am prayers and not want to leave. I would just worship and desire to bask in God’s presence till dawn or until sleep took hold of me (whichever came first).

It was amazing!

And it happened all from a fast.

I saw some words in the passage we have been using in our Knowing Jesus series and it struck me deeply.

“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, PERCEIVING AND RECOGNIZING AND UNDERSTANDING the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly],…’
-Philippians 3:10, AMP

There are three words in that passage relating to knowing Jesus; PERCEIVING, RECOGNIZING AND UNDERSTANDING the wonders of His person.

Some of us are numb to experiencing any of those three dimensions. We cannot see God for who He is. We cannot sense His ways anymore. We sadly cannot say or desire that Jesus be our greatest desire. At those kind of times, you do not need to condemn yourself; you simply need to take steps to making Jesus your greatest desire once again. And one of the ways to do this is through fasting.

This year, God has been dealing with me on fasting so much! My flesh cries but my spirit is better for it.

So here is what I am tugged on to do: for those who really desire God.. maybe you have been in a rut for some time… can you take some time out to fast today? The prayer point is not for things; the prayer point is a simple one:

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

-Ephesians 5:17

Spend some time in prayer today, maybe 30 mins to an hour, simply asking for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so you may know Jesus better. So you can again perceive, recognize and understand His person more strongly.

Sometimes we get in a rut with God, please take steps to get yourself out of that rut today.

If you need the prayers from the seven days fast I did with my sisters at the women at the well for more of Jesus, then please download the free “TWTW Bible study and prayer  workbook” HERE.

To knowing Jesus more, amen.

Love,

Frances
